Elite Showcase in Plano

by onedownonetogo » Thu Nov 05, 2009 10:12 am

I don't believe that a college coach wants their attendance at a showcase to be a secret in advance of the showcase. If that was the case, they wouldn't confirm their attendance at major showcases like Ronald McDonald weeks in advance.

These coaches get slammed daily with emails by the same group of players whether they are coming are not. There would be fewer emails if they let people know in advance that they absolutely wouldn't be at the showcase.

Jeff, if you or the Texas Elite have some specific knowledge about coaches who will be coming to Plano this weekend, why wouldn't you want to share it? Isn't that the purpose of your organziation hosting showcases? To get as many kids in front of as many coaches as possible.

I've never understood why showcases like Ronald McDonald freely share their information about coaches, when others like Rising Stars and Elite Showcase, hide behind a 10-year old list of coaches who have ever attended some showcase hosted by the group.

While that is a good start of coaches, an experienced showcase of this magnitude (140-155 teams) should draw a larger coach attendance. It has not this year, nor in previous years.

Are the coaches in our backyard all attending- UT, A&M, SFA, TX State, UTSA, UTEP, SHSU, OU, OSU? Where is LSU, Alabama, FIU, FSU, South Carolina, VT, the 2 other OSU's, Penn, Harvard, Michigan, Nebraska, UNLV, NMSU, UCSB, UW, etc? Here is a hint- it starts with an H and ends with an h.

I am not trying to offend anyone that puts in tireless hours in an attempt to help girls achieve their dreams. It is merely an observation. Maybe this will change with the ncaa schedule. We will see this weekend.

I get the same advanced knowledge as the rest of you about who's coming. If I had a full list, believe me I would post it, however no such list exists because they do not have to preregister. There is also a Rack in the Coaches tent that you coaches can put your Bios on and the coaches do pick them up there. Be smart and attach your detailed schedule. If you really want to know what coaches have checked in, go to the coaches tent and ask?

I can tell you that before the Fall Window was condenced into 4 weeks there were a lot of coaches who attend these late showcases. I can tell you that alot of D1s who didnt wattend the Oct Showcase told me in Oct they were going to other events throughout the country and they would be at the November Elite Event because they could see most of the same teams then. So, we will see. I wouldn't be playing if I didnt know there will be coaches.

Just like with every other showcase, get on the Phone and the Computer and make sure that ALL the coaches know exactly where and when they are playing. Do they all show up, nope, but a lot will. I can tell you from MY experience that MOST the D1s in the Region and most Colleges in the Region (D2, NAIA, D3 and Juco) attend these showcases. You have got to get your kids on their watchlists though.

The lists I posted was just most the ones I can remember being at our Games in Oct. I dont always know every coach who attends when they show up mid-way through our games.

I saw Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech. No other Big XII or SEC schools. Anyone see anyone else? Pretty weak turnout of division I schools and very few Div. IIs.

Very weak turnout of college coaches for this exposure. Texas Elite made tons of money on this one.

Unless they were all over at Jeff's games, there certainly were no Div. I's and not many Div. II's any where around.

I was pretty focussed on developing our 16s all weekend, since this was the first time I've got to coach this bunch this year. But the coaches I know I either talked to or saw watching us were Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Missouri State, Tulsa and several D2s, NAIAs and Jucos. I would say at our 5 games we averaged around 8 coaches per game at both Heritage and Archgate.

Some people act like its a bad thing if a kid goes D2, NAIA, Juco or D3. Wake up people, I have kids at all levels and as long as they are happy and finish their degree, thats all that matters. Softball will end for 99.9% of these girls after college, but the degree will last a lifetime.

I saw UT-Arlington and Southeastern Missouri. Saw about four Div. IIs so I guess that is "several," and saw a bunch of JUCOS and D3s, which is where the vast majority of North Texas kids will end up playing if they play at all. Saw a lot of really bad softball teams this weekend, including some that had traveled a long, long way to get there.

Saw J.D.'s Hummer too!

I also saw St. Edwards, UT-San Antonio, UT-Permian Basin and UT-Tyler there. Agree with your comment about the level of ball played. There were a lot more basic fielding mistakes and poor hitting fundamentals, especially slapping, than I expected to see. And a ton of listless teams with kids who really didn't seem to want to be there.
