I'm sure them girls will be relieved that Heybucket's scientific experts assured you that the rise ball doesnt exist and there you have it; problemo solved. Your question is moot.

Two words. Reading comprehension.

Well, my DD had a pitching lesson this past Saturday, and I can confirm that the rise ball doesn't exist

She's had more trouble with the rise ball than anything else she's learned, which I guess is fairly common.

Her drop ball, on the other hand, is starting to really scare her poor old 40 year old catcher :|

16 pages of this drivel, and nothing else but tryout ads. Maybe it's time for another hiatus.

Well, there's always room for improvement, but she plays a pretty good shortstop, has a better than average arm for her age with a quick release. She's a decent catcher too (I think she likes catching more than anything else), just needs to work on her blocking techniques a little more.

Her hitting is pretty good, she batted 3rd for her team last year, doesn't strike out very often (hardly ever looking) and has decent power. She's going to her first "professional" hitting lesson in a couple weeks, so we'll see how that turns out.

And yes, I know you were saying she better be able to field and hit if she can't pitch a rise ball, but I figured I would answer anyway ;) Her instructor didn't start her on the rise ball until a month or 2 ago. Honestly, I think she may have the physical ability to be a decent pitcher, but I'm not sure she is there mentally, and if the mental aspect doesn't click soon, I'm gonna suggest we concentrate more on catching and fielding. Maybe we should have arrived at that point before now, who knows?

Just a suggestion...

Before she quits pitching (if she says she loves it), try going to a guest instructor.

I was beyond fed up with my catcher DD. Loved games, hated to practice, and just wasn't mentally there. A few weeks ago, her pitcher friend changed instructors and we added some new lessons with a new catching coach for the same time. It has made all the difference in the world. Once again, I am finding her in the garage doing drills on her own, looking up catching stuff/videos, and finding sticky notes with goals.

She is now with an alpha female type and it works for her. She thrives on structure and discipline. In hindsight, I can't believe I didn't figure it out sooner. Just a thought before she hangs up the pro-tec toes.
