Sports Drinks

What's on your mind?

by jonriv » Wed Sep 07, 2011 5:06 am

Acknowledging that water is by far the best for hydration and especially for pre-hydration, there is still a need for electrolyte replacement during competition- especially in extreme hot weather.

The more popular brands(Gatorade, Powerade etc..) supply both hydration and electrolytes, but are also high in sugar. To make it worse they also contain artificial dyes, flavors as well as preservatives. Over the years (mostly by the efforts of my wife) I have searched for a natural or healthier alternative- there are many out there, but they taste like garbage. Has anyone found an all-natural sports drink that a teenage girl will actually drink?

Oh the horror! :o
Are those items better or worse than a hamburger during a tournament?

Use MIO. I don't know the ingredients, but I can't keep it in the house. You just squirt in the amount that you want in your water.

Cute

But I am sure most parents would prefer to avoid pumping their children's bodies with chemicals if a natural substitute was available. Our pediatrician(whose daughter also plays in college) feels they are very unhealthy and advises against them. Perhaps you should consult your family pediatrician as well

http://www.kraftbrands.com/mio/

FInd it next to the dry lemonade mix, in the grocery store. They have a facebook page, too. My adult kids that live on their own, seem to be shoplifting it from my pantry, daily. We love it and we are drinking less soda, because of it.
