Well Coached Teams

by leagueoftheirown » Wed May 07, 2008 7:09 pm

In my opinion the best coached team in the 12 and under teams is 95 Texas Glory.Coach Flanigan manages the games and practices very well.He knows how to use his talent to get out the best in their ability. His practices are very organized and keeps the girls busy at all times.Just look at the success his team has had. They are probably the best 95 team. They have won a national championship, they compete at a high level against older 94 teams.Of course this is just my opinion.

I'm glad you mentioned coach Flan, any coach that has his players step on the plate to extend a game due to his team losing well never be a good coach.

Softball wasn't designed for coaches to manipulate the outcome or delay the game. The reason I like softball is for the pureness of the sport, team against team, girl against girl. Their hard work at practice showing during the game. I hate it when I see a coach have girls delay or get intentional outs so they might come back and win.

I saw another coach for glory do this also last fall. (Fouts) If this is what they teach in glory nation they are teaching the girls nothing...MHO

Tournament Directors please take away these BUSH LEAGUE stratiges by designing you format better.

It starts with the TD we need to do away with the timing of softball games.. NO MORE TIME CLOCKS.

I hear what you are saying, and have been at the receiving end to one of their coaches (not the 95's) ridiculously managing the clock (shoe tying, fake injuries, timeouts, etc), but I think the situation you're describing is good game tactics & managing the game, if it's a bracket game. That's part of his job, just like pitch calling. If it's a meaningless pool game and you do it for bragging rights, shame on you, your players should have hit/fielded better.

But if it's a go-home or place decision, step on the bag, send your runner early, whatever. If I'm at the receiving end, then my girls should have hit/fielded better and not put themselves in a position to lose and given up control to another coach.

Then your DD needs to play a timed sport like basketball. Softball should be played by innings with run rules and if we have to strict run rules. 5 innings in 1hr and 15 min sounds reasonable.

Coaches are not stratigizing they are maipulating the rules to thier advantage, there is a difference.

Also if your playing golf Tiger won't yell at your opponent because he is about ready to sink a putt that is going to cost him millions, it’s called etiquette.

Just because you are losing you DON"T do anything you can on the softball field including manipulating the rules of the tournament in your favor.

My DD sucks at basketball, so that's not an option.

It's kind of like the player that intentionally drops a fly ball to shallow right center to turn the double play and help win the league championship game. Oh wait, that was my team and that was me.

You are right in that they won't always have that strategy to rely on when they get older and have to play 7 innings, or 5, with no clock. But as long as there is a clock, there will be those that use it to their advantage. Similar to my deductions on my tax return. :?

BTW, I like the idea of 5 innings no clock. That's why everyone praises Keller when they run their 6 inning, 6 gg tournaments. No BS.

So we should tell those Nascar people to quit drafting and tapping. Or the NFL teams that it's not nice to call a time out right before a field goal is kicked. Bad etiquette.

Uh, yes. Other than harming another player or cheating, I want to win at all costs. I want my daughter to dive and possibly scrape up her elbows/knees to stop a ball from going into the OF. I want to keep track of a pitcher or hitters vulnerabilities to ensure the best possible outcome for my team. I want to find your weakness and beat the crap out of you. I want to play by the rules and use them to my advantage.

I don't disagree with you in general. We could stop the game within the game by going to no clocks, but as long as they're there, I will use it. If you don't, that other team will.

Gotta go to work now, catch up with you later.

 Did I mention on this board I got connections...I got a certificate. Do I need to post a business card for where I've been trained?

Oh back to the post subject. Short of Budwieser, Donnie has the best coached team in TX.

Winning at all cost when people say this it means CHEATING, MANIPULATING, AND LYING ETC..
It doesn’t mean Hard Work, STRATIGIZING, AND BEING PREPAIRD ETC..
I didn’t know I was talking to a toothless Nascar fan (just kidding), By the way Nascar does have red flags for cheaters. Also if they alter a car they have to forfeit, Like altering the rules in softball, wrong is wrong right is right.

Also calling a timeout to ice a kicker is a liitle diffrent than having a grown man tell his team to take a out so we can have more time to get our way.

STRATIGIZING VS MAIPULATING is a fine line a true ethical people know the diffrence.
