Top High School Age Pitchers in Texas

To me speed posts are somewhat pointless. The statement "pitcher x" was clocked at 68 mph or 70 mph, is more often rumor than fact. Seldom is the statement "I clocked her" throwing 68 mph. Unless you are holding the radar gun or standing beside the person holding the gun its all speculation. Even then the speed may not be accurate.

Radar guns vary within a range of 3 to 5 mph depending on model. Some radar guns are correctly tuned, some are not. Some have new batteries some don't. Most legit gold pitchers throw speed pitches at between 63-65 mph under game conditions. There is a BIG difference between 64 and 68 mph. Consistent 68 mph under game conditions is "eye popping" speed as compared to another pitcher throwing merely 64 mph.

Having 20 strike outs in a high school game is a tremendous accomplishment, but is not evidence that the pitcher throws 68 mph. Rather it is evidence that she is a fine pitcher. It is also an indication that on that day she was throwing "fast enough." Whether the actual velocity was 60 mph or 70 mph does not matter.

The point is that to be a dominant pitcher you have to throw "fast enough." You also have to have all the other attributes (pitch movement, pitch location, composure, confidence etc..) in addition to speed that go into being a quality pitcher. I am not saying velocity doesn't matter, only that once they throw "fast enough" other things are just as important.

I would think once a pitcher can hit 60 mph, a college coach will take the one that can hit the corners and move the breaking ball up and down, inside and out, before he looks at the one that whips at 65+, and possibly walks twice the number batters as the other due to control problems.

I think the emphasis on speed alone is misplaced as well.

I have been present during her pitching lesson and she was a between 62 & 65 on a REVFIRE
Talked with her pitching coach she injured her hand back in Jan and is not completely healthy

pitchers I have seen that thorw had and are worth the price of a ticket in Fort Worh/westside
Birdville pitcher when healthy I think throws a little harder than Aledo pitcher.
Brock pitcher 64-68
Weatherford pitcher 64-68 had 20 K's vs North Crowley in 7 innings last week
Burleson pitcher 63/65

20 K's against this team is not hard with a quality pitcher. N Crowley is not a very good team. Just ask Crowley which is not very good either and spanked them this year(2011)

Couldn't agree more. Just ask Alabama after this weekend! LSU pitcher (Mack) throwing about 10 mph slower than the Bama pitchers and LSU gets the sweep. Location, movement and control, gotta have those.
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

i have seen over thirty different hi sch teams this season including birdville and aledo. birdville has good speed around 60 most strikeouts are on her rise ball.. once you start laying off the rise she has to come into the zone and she is hittable. my dg was 3 for 4 against her and beat birdville 6 to 1. Aledo pitcher has decent speed around 60 but is all over the place dg team beat aledo by 10 run rule. Speed is nice, but is not enough. Kayla English has signed to play college and ahs over 800 Ks for her four years. Dg team beat her 2 to 1. As we all know it takes 9 to play the game. Without movement and spots and strategy speed will not carry to next level.

Wakeland has good pitcher as well.

Movement and control are the most important factors.Which would you rather have a flat 65+fastball or a 65+fastball with movement?

AE27--

I wish your daughter every success pitching for Pearland next year. Likewise, I wish her every success pitching for the Aces Express 16U team.

As for you, you should have continued to hold out on this one. It is unseemly to get on this board and brag about your kid. You say No. 27 is going to be one of the best. I hope so. But as of now she has done nothing on the high school or gold level.

Practice some humility. If your kid is good, others will say she is good. She doesn't need for you to go around proclaiming how good she is going to be on a public discussion board. It is okay to believe she is going to be the best. Only keep it to yourself. Things happen. Sometimes things don't work out the way you hope.

Parents who talk too much put unneccessary pressure on their player. Don't be one of those parents.
