To me speed posts are somewhat pointless. The statement "pitcher x" was clocked at 68 mph or 70 mph, is more often rumor than fact. Seldom is the statement "I clocked her" throwing 68 mph. Unless you are holding the radar gun or standing beside the person holding the gun its all speculation. Even then the speed may not be accurate.
Radar guns vary within a range of 3 to 5 mph depending on model. Some radar guns are correctly tuned, some are not. Some have new batteries some don't. Most legit gold pitchers throw speed pitches at between 63-65 mph under game conditions. There is a BIG difference between 64 and 68 mph. Consistent 68 mph under game conditions is "eye popping" speed as compared to another pitcher throwing merely 64 mph.
Having 20 strike outs in a high school game is a tremendous accomplishment, but is not evidence that the pitcher throws 68 mph. Rather it is evidence that she is a fine pitcher. It is also an indication that on that day she was throwing "fast enough." Whether the actual velocity was 60 mph or 70 mph does not matter.
The point is that to be a dominant pitcher you have to throw "fast enough." You also have to have all the other attributes (pitch movement, pitch location, composure, confidence etc..) in addition to speed that go into being a quality pitcher. I am not saying velocity doesn't matter, only that once they throw "fast enough" other things are just as important.
