That's what I was asking in my earlier post...is this meant to be an insult or a compliment to the Jets?

I would hope a compliment, the Jets are a solid 2nd year 14U team, they have split wins with Kaos over the past year and this past weekend, they beat the Power 14u but then lost to them to place 3rd. The comments in the "pick em" post explain the weekend for the Jets but I will repeat here:
Jets over Justice 8-0 (3rd inning run rule)
Jets beat Power 16u 1-0
Jets beat Power 14u 2-0
Jets lost to Kaos 95 5-1
Jets lost to Power 14u 1-0

I'm not sure who each of the other 3 teams beat but this was certainly not an easy road for the Jets. They are a very well coached team with a talented group of young ladies. They play hard every time they hit the field and respect each and every team they play because they know that if they don't play well themselves then any team can jump up and bite them. Our girls enjoy the competition.
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

Looks like the Fury are trying to move there way up the ladder. Heard they beat the Peppers again this weekend. I also heard the Peppers got run ruled by Woodlands Thunder!!!!
I figured the Peppers would be dominating the 12s up north, but looks can be deceiving.

Should be interesting to see who comes out of the Katy Classic on top.

I was thinking the Fury must have had a good game and the Peppers a bad game after two weeks ago, but now two tournaments in a row and the Peppers getting ruled by Woodlands Thunder I am left wondering where the smackdaddy rankings are. My guess is the Fury is getting it together and the Peppers are frustrated. And great, now we have 2 Thunder teams to talk about, this should cause some confusion. Looks like FB won 14U in Sugarland. Aces 4th in Lake Jackson. Bandits are in hibernation. Fury has recorded bracket wins against Peppers and Aces, they have to be higher on the list. I heard some of the top teams are dropping from Katy this weekend. (FB Thunder, Bandits, Riptide, Ice)
What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.

South Texas Top Ten Final fall standings coming soon, please provide your input before hand and all will be considered. I will wait until after Katy Classic to make my final standings.

observations

Aces were up and down, not a good hitting team but good pitching. More failures than successes. Not a consistant team.

Peppers also up and down, mostly down at the end of Fall when they should have been at their best. No first place finishes, 4 second place finishes, 1 third and 1 fourth.

FB Thunder had some hiccups, overall a fairly consistant team but did not do well at the big one (RM).

Woodlands Thunder took 2nd behind Fury and ahead of Peppers last week. Are they on the list now? I never heard of them until last week.

Bandits were pretty consistant, but appeared to dodge some teams effectively. Started slow and finished strong in some carefully chosen tournaments.

Fury has to make the top 5 list, they got better as the season progressed and won a couple in the end. They did not exactly play the best teams out there either so it hard to judge where they should be.

Redhots had a great run at a few tournaments with top 5's.

96 Kaos disappeared after winning RM. That was their only accomplishment this Fall to my knowledge and supposedly did it with some girls from the 95 team.

Houston Power won one, they have to be considered for the top 10 but might not make the cut.

CyFair Shock dodged all Fall, but faired well in their efforts. Also a consideration for top 10.

Riptide did not fair well at all. 2 second place finishes in tournaments that had all first year teams, and one of them was not the Red Hots so I view this as being left far behind the pace.

Sting I believe are done. Have not heard or seen of them since RM.

96 Ice has been playing with pickups, but brought home a few 3rd place finishes this fall. Maybe they make the list?

Your thoughts?

Do the TEXAS teams ever get together and play or will we see the "regional" rankings all year. When you read CA board you know rankings have merit as SO. CAl ASA is that much better than N CAL ASA. Reading these rankings you never see the Mesquite Diamonds ranked. This team has actually been to Nationals and plays more 14U than 12U. Unlike many you have ranked, and NO USFA doesn't count. I would (being from out of Texas), like to see some kind of ratings that encompassed entire state of Texas, and just not Houston, or Dallas Metro, but best of the best of Texas..

8 of the 15 Texas Teams that went to 12U Nats last year came from Sout Texas. The other 7 are scattered around Central and North Texas. A few South teams will travel North occasionally and a few North teams will travel South occassionally. Both are well represented but rarely travel across the State because they both have good competition close to home.

This Fall (4) teams came south for the 24 (12u teams) Ronal McDonald tournament, (2) 95 teams (Flame Throwers and 95 Bombers) playing 12U in this Fall which in S Texas is considered trophy hunting or playing down, and (2) 96 team (96 Bombers, Austin Storm). Both 96 team were said to be tough, but went 2 and out. The 95 Flame Throwers and 95 Bombers finished in the top 7, but in all reality they should have never been in the bracket. Nor should they be considered a threat in 14U this Spring.

Last Spring a few teams went to the big N Tex tournament, Bomber Classic, hosted and rigged by the Bombers themselves. S Tex teams took 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th. N Tex took 3rd.

Well here goes, my first post ever. I have sat idly by and read all of these posts for months now and have always resisted the urge to respond. Not to offend anybody, but this is nothing more than LCD (Lowest Common Denominator), Fox Television Reality TV at its best. How some of you find the time to work and spend all the time you do on this site posting and "researching" the best teams in the area/state is remarkable. Smackdaddy, you are the wind beneath my wings and the inspiration for this post. You must be plain stupid! First, several posts back you criticized "asmackqueen" for being unoriginal. Tell me, what is the story behind your avatar? I could swear I have seen that same avatar being utilized in the past by someone on the CA boards. Perhaps you are trying to fly "under the radar?"

Next, since you are the anointed "bracketologist" of TX could you please list which 15 teams went to 12U Nationals last year? Also, could you please list the 8 teams that were from "South Texas?" In regards to the 2 96 teams being tough, who made those comments? Truth be told neither one of those are what I would characterize as strong.

Are you really being serious about all of this or are you just trying to pump teams like the Peppers. Are we really supposed to take you seriously when you refer to the Bomber Classic as a "big North Texas tournament?" Refresh my memory for me, where is that tournament played? That's right....in NEW BRAUNFELS. Which is 30 miles north of San Antonio and 50 miles south of Austin. THIS IS NORTH TEXAS???? The fact is New Braunfels is really no farther north than Houston.

Bottom line: North Texas is generally considered the Dallas/Ft Worth area when speaking of softball.

Moving on, Comets16, I have seen your posts as well. I do find it somewhat peculiar that you seem to spend a lot of time worrying about this Mesquite Diamonds team and other teams from CA. First, I dont know who this Mesquite Diamonds team is and if they are that good, I would think more people in this topic would have as well. Second, if you are that good and prepared, then personally I would not spend so much of my time researching all of these other out of state teams. Just show up and play ball. Because I am not familiar with your team as well, I did follow your link to your team. You do appear to be a VERY good team. Also, it appears that you are going through some trying times health-wise. I wish you good health and a speedy recovery. Frankly, your team should be very successful based on what I saw on your website.

Finally, I close with this offer. Smackdaddy, bring your Peppers team, and the other top teams from the "South" (i.e. Houston) to an A tournament in "North Texas" and lets see how accuracy of these rankings.

Happy Holidays,
Paul

mY "lurking" is that I like to know what is going on across the US. That and taking what I have seen, and the teams our team has played against the Nation. Our team beat TX Batbusters, and Austin Stars, but lost to the ASA 2007 10U Nationals Runner up for a 5th place finish..At 12U Nationals last year we run ruled Tx Kaos 95, but lost to Travelers Lusk for a 17th place finish..From CA we beat CA Rebels once in and then tied them in a scrimmage, they are ranked #1 in CA 12U right now.. We also in 2007 beat Victory USA, Corona Angels (K) the team that finished 13th at this years Nationals. We lost to CA Nemesis '95 by 1 point, in pool play, but beat Minors Gold twice, once in pool, once in elim. So my viewing of rankings across USA is trying to figure out where we (Frost Comets)fit in, and enjoy watching the teams, coaches, players my dd has played against get older, etc, as they are tied to their birth year...

My Mesquite Diamonds is you don't go from 2nd at Nationals to not being on ranked at all. You maybe change team names like Tx Kruzers, go to two seperate teams but usually don't fall off face of the map..

Also Thanks for the kind words..

Chris -

You certainly seem to know your stuff and where your team rates against some of the other top teams in the country. I do have a couple of questions/comments. First, in regards to 12U Nationals last year, did you attend with the same team you have now? As a first year team, did you have any 95's on the team? We have to make sure we are comparing apples to apples. Also, the teams from CA that you beat, whether it was last summer or back in 2007, are these the exact same teams now? I mean lets face it, i think all you really are concerned about is 2009 12U Nationals. You wont face Kaos 95 or Nemesis 95 or Minors Gold. I am quite certain that you have made additions and subtractions, just as all of the other teams have, since you lasted played them. Having said that, if you were a age pure 96 team and beat KAos and lost to Travelers, there is no shame in that. They are probably the best team in Tx right now. They have beat the Kruzers on a consistent basis this Fall. Now, every team has to be at least 96 pure, meaning no older girls.

Again, I am not questioning this Mesquite team, but simply saying I am not familiar with them. There are a lot of new teams with Diamonds in the name. Maybe their girls moved on to other things or maybe they just peaked early and the rest of the competition caught up with them. Do you have a link or any other info.

Best of luck,
Paul
