Finally decided to grace us with your presence. BTW which team are you guys on now? I have a question, albeit perhaps a stupid one. What is the purpose of your 16U/18U travel ball coach; especially if he or she is coaching a talented team? What I am asking is "what is the primary focus or goal?" IMHO I believe it is to make sure his or her players get put in the optimum circumstances to maximize their potential for "looks" by college coaches. First and foremost I believe it is to get kids signed so they can litter their website with little Susie's college signing. I mean take a look at some of the top organizational websites. Nowhere do I see a lot of chestbumping about their won/loss record. Instead, it is all about who they have (whether they came up through the ranks of their younger teams - very unlikely) or who they stole away from other successful teams (very likely), and which major D1 conference they committed to.
HS coaches have no such purpose! They are simply there to try and win ball games. They are not necessarily administrators or recruiters (although some of the top HS programs in the area definitely do their share of recruiting). They are judged on their win/loss record. Travel ball coaches at the 16U/18U level are judges on how many kids they sign.
Now dont take this the wrong way and think I am saying HS coaches are better than Select coaches. I am simply saying they have two different purposes in my opinion. There is not a lot of instruction in select ball at this level. HS coaches are forced to be instructors because they rarely have the luxury of having a starting 9 made up solely of select players. Their livelihood is based on the number of wins they produce - period. The same is not true for select coaches.
Good day MR MEN
Thanks for your warm welcome back for old BOB. Where do we start.
1. MY DD is now with one of the true super powers in Texas softball. And yes we have tat's and membership cards to prove it.
2.Our coaching staff provides training & instruction even at the 16/18 level.
3.Their purpose is to provide an enviroment in which all their players "stolen or brought up through the system"can become better people & players & also have a chance to be seen by the top College programs in the nation.
4.High school Coaches have no real purpose period, unless they are good art or health teachers. They are motivated by wins & losses, all the more reason they dont have your DD'S best interest at heart"just their own asses".
We could go on & on here but we both agree that FAMILY GUY is a funny freaking show!!!!
THANK YOU
