On the map it looks like she would be half way between I805 & I5 south of Bay Park ... Linda Vista ?

Funny ... DW mentioned that we should drive out there with, or possible deliver her bike to her after she flies out ...

She is the type that will want to do things while she is not working ( volunteeering ) ... She is going to take a class at a community college, but I'm sure will want to hit the beach, bars, parks ... She is not bringing her dog with her and will have at least 3 room mates ... Likes to do physical things - run on the beach, hike, kayak ... Wants to get a paddle board but found out how expensive they were ( very frugal in most cases ) ... Surfing ? ...Took a couple lessons but never went too much further ... I suspect she will come down with an ailment that requires she get a perscription for medical gangha ...

Friar Blvd. ... Sea World Drive ... Famosa ... Catalina ... ? Bik-able routes ? What is the public transportation situation in that area ? ... It looks like Palomar College will be too far to bike ...

Friars Rd area to Dolphin Tanks at Pt Loma is a decent bike ride. That puts her close to the beach, shopping, bars, etc.

Palomar College is a drive, not a bike ride from there.

I am getting info as I need it, or as they deem that I need it ... The Palomer College thing is sort of a sponsorship thing and she will only need to check in occassionally with the professor ... So, she can most likely get a ride from a roomie for that ... I'll pass on the Craigslist tips ... ( DW and I watched a Cheech & Chong flick this AM - " Mauie Wowie mixed with a little labrador " ... TFF )

She has been renting a paddleboard in Maine and teaching herself how to use it ... I guess it is way harder than it looks ... She says I will find out this week on our trip to visit her in Maine before she flies out West ...

Any tips on a bike shop near Mission Valley ? ... Or between there & Point Loma ? I see Sports Chalet, but was thinking of having a bike shipped from here and assembled ... From what I see on line, it looks like Sport Chalet is the west coast equivelant of Dicks ... And I have had sales people at Dicks tell me things like : " You should probably go to a sporting goods store ... "

Lots of bike shops in Pt Loma, OB, and along Mission Blvd from Mission Beach to La Jolla.

Thanks ... Sport Chalet did say they could assemble a bike ... Their rentals are just 'beach cruisers ' ... Good links on the Yelp thing ... Yeah, Dick's sucks for sure - I wasn't really sure they were out your way ... The time when their employee told me that I needed to go to a sporting goods store I was looking to get a new tip put on a fishing rod ... Pretty basic repair, but I took his advice ...
I broke down her bike and preped it like the 800 airline baggage help person told me to do ... It met all their requirments but the baggage check peeps refused to take it ... They at first said they can't take bikes ... Then they said they can't take bikes unless they are in a box ... Then they said they could take bikes but promised that they would damage it and we would need to sign a waiver ... BUT, it would cost 7 times what we were quoted AND that the person on the 800 number is from another planet ... LOL ... Gonna try UPS & FED EX, but most likely she will be buying a bike in SD already assembled & tuned up ... LL Bean will ship a new bike from here in Maine for $30, but she would need to have it assembled & tuned ...

Performance Bike and Bicycle Warehouse are the biggest bike shops near her. My favorite for service is Bicycle Discovery on Felspar and Mission Blvd in PB. There are a few good ones in North County on 101 that know their stuff as they deal with a lot of tri athletes, but they are not close to her.

Thanks ... She just flew out and doesnt start until next week ... Working on getting settled etc. ... We shipped her bike out UPS for about $100 ... I think it's some basic re-assembly that she can handle ... maybe ... Smart kid but not the most mechanically inclined of the bunch ...
