Is there a team when you play you just have to beat??

by Daniel71475 » Mon Nov 23, 2009 1:20 pm

Now i'm not talking they are a better team and you want to win. I'm talking personal when your DD's team plays them you want to crush them. Weather the coach wronged you in some way or hes just an @$$, or maybe its the parents on the team you used to play on and they keep going on and on about how good there new team is and you just want to shut them up.

Just wanting to know what everyone thinks

Yep. Everyone has those. We have several but the most notable and reason why is below...

Our team had just moved up to 10U and beat their 97's 3-2 in the previous tournament (who were still playing down in the fall). After that, in the Spring, they used fake birth certificates to bring in some of their 96 and 97 players (pitcher and catcher included) in order to beat us in tournaments. Reason I know their age is my DD had played on a 10U team when she was 6 and and they were on it. I still had copies of their LEGAL birth certificates. They finally got caught and thrown out of several tournaments and we never had to play them again that season. That coach is still coaching on a younger team and we ran into them about 2 months ago. We put the pedal to the metal and refused to step off bag or give an inch. People may not approve, but we put 20 runs up in one inning and ran the time out (we were home team). They were 3 up and 3 down in the first all on strike outs. They were STILL playing their 98's on that team instead of them moving up to 12U.

OH and for those who complain, we turned all our girls and batted them opposite handed (lefties batted right and righties batted left) and they still only managed 2 outs. It felt great. I felt a little sorry for some of the girls on that team, but the majority of them have older sisters who were on the team that beat us and their parents were in the stands. They knew what was going on and in all honesty, if you can't get 3 outs with running through the entire batting line up almost 3 times, then you have a problem. Cheating should NEVER be acceptable and we got phone calls from several of the parents of kids on that team apologizing for what they had previously done. They were just "embarrased"  that their 97 team got beat by 99's in their first tournament to move up. We have done that to them again (not quite as severe - 2 innings this time - 18-0), but they now avoid any tournament we are signed up in like the plague.

The girls know that losing to them is not an option and they always get hyped to play them. We have the same team together with only 1 exception as that first tournament and they REMEMBER and discuss it before the game just to remind each other what it means!!!

What are you doing with a copy of their birth certificates? You should return them to the players or have them shredded.

Simple answers. Our league had no coach pitch a couple of years ago. All kids after tball move directly to "player pitch". If you wanted to play coach pitch you had to make a long drive and get exemption to play out of "district" (easily done but no one wanted the hassle and since so many 7&8 year olds played, no one thought much of it). Also, since I help organize the league a copy of birth certificates for each player has to be kept on file for girls to play league. I.E. The reason I have them. These kids all still play league but plAy on "tournament teams" as well. I couldn't prove they were cheating as I didn't have them with me as THAT would be illegal. Can't carry them out of the office. It is also the reason we had to wait until someone else pulled the plug so to speak as I can't use the ones I have for that purpose. Perfectly above board on my side but certainly not on theirs!!
FYI - league play = rec - not tournament at that age. Not full of anything, just a different way things are done. The little ones start in the outfield the older ones infield/pitcher. Drafting spreads them out evenly so no team is full of 7 yo having to pitch to 11 yo. Every place is different. Don't knock it. They have moved to coach pitch (last year) but many still do it the older way and take kids straight in. It is parent choice.

Interesting. Wish the league here did that. San Antonio's "league" has kids that young but they form their teams by "tryout" method, so the best kids end up on one or two teams and then it goes from there. There is always one or two teams that are the younger kids (7/8/9) that get killed (metaphorically) each year. Basically, whatever team the coach can put together pays their "team" dues for the fall, spring or summer league night and you get to play two games per week for between 6 and 8 weeks. Lots of games which is nice, but in many cases it is lopsided. They also decided to add coach pitch (I think it was 2 years ago here) but like you many opt out of that and choose to play 10U. The parents feel that coach pitch isn't "real" softball. There choice.
