Playing up is out of control

by amazing » Sun Nov 29, 2009 6:12 am

Seems like more and more teams are playing "way up" beyond their age groups. I have seen 99s playing 14U and 98s playing 16U this fall. If I am one of the older teams this would really pi$$ me off. I think they would prefer to play teams their own age. The younger teams could care less. They have nothing to lose and the coach can brag about his girls playing or beating an older team. I have also seen older teams beat the crap out of these younger teams. To the point where I did not think it was safe for the younger girls. When is Texas going to get it together and make teams play in their respective age groups like other states? I don’t believe CA allows it.

What tournament did you see 99s playing 14U?

agreed...what is in in for the older teams? There is nothing worse than playing a young group that is not ready. Their pitching is usually slow and there is no way for them to put the ball in play. If you haven't won a tournament in your own age group then you should stay there until you do. To me it does not do the 99 girls much good either when they play up since the ball is larger and the mound is further away. Their timing has to be effected when the go back to the 10u mound distance.

I agree as 99s should not play in those tourneys. The tournaments needs to make rule about the limit on age groups that can play. Somebody (a 99 gteam) is going to get hurt badly playing in a 16U tournament. That's probably what it will take for somebody to use LOGIC and stop that foolishness.

How is that all going to shake out? Is VTD trying to be like ASA and compete directly with them? Are ASA tournaments going to be posted on VTD? Will ASA have their own web site. Will ASA districts still approave rosters for tournaments? Will teams have to join multiple associations? Very up in the air, no answers from either side that I have heard???? :? :?

Anyone who attended the VTD meeting on Sunday...what's the deal? Any new info? ASA also hosted a meeting last week and sounds like they aren't even close to having their act together yet with a new website.

Some TDs in CA do allow teams to play up. That is why most of the better older teams are not playing in those TDs tournaments any more. One of the tournaments I looked at on 2 of 12 16s where actually 16s.

You must be from NorTex. SoTex does not have teams playing up as much but the ones that do typically hold there own. NorTex is out of control.
