There are two teams I saw previously that someone could seriously get hurt on. Texas Liberty and Team Texas. They are playing 18U tournaments and the Liberty team is putting some 10yo girls on the field. Both of these are 14yo teams with talent that you can judge for yourself if you see them. I would not take the chance of getting my 10yo's head knocked off, but I guess some people don't care.

Alot of 14U teams are playing 18U in Central Texas. Some deserve to be there as they are getting ready for an ASA A 14U run, and can play with your average 18U team from around here. Others are rec teams kidding themselves that they belong on an 18U field. That is why you rarely see any 18U teams with gold talent playing anywhere near central texas.

Niether Liberty nor Team Texas are rec teams. They are from the Houston area and Houston ASA (along with surrounding districts) does not allow travel teams to play "B", that is reserved for "rec" in Houston. I also don't really think these teams are planning on making a 14u ASA "A" run this coming spring either. I know both of these teams played in one or two showcases this past Fall, not that big of a deal considering they will be playing 14u next Spring and they certainly weren't the only 14u team playing in showcases this season. Although some of those girls were really small and I have to say I was a little scared for them. Good for them though for toughing it out and playing the big girls, they never seemed to lose their spirit from what I saw.
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

Texas Liberty and Team Texas are both a joke. Maybe they should try to team up with TCB and then they might be able to put nine girls on the field and play in a tournament every once in a while. They could call themselves TLTTTCB

Meet Olivia, she will be moving up to 18G this year. With her obvious talent her mother thinks that it would just be a waist of time playing with girls her own age.

I'm not sure about 99s playing 14U, but there are definitely a larger number of teams playing out of their age division than there has been in years past. I'm all for it though. If the objective of your team is to get better so that you can qualify for nationals and then be competitive once you get there, how can you do that by playing in ASA tournaments in NTX at your own level? No one follows the classification system and new daddy ball teams pop up weekly. It's nearly impossible to play against anyone who is going to help you get any better by playing in "tournaments" that you find on VTD. I'm all for the alternatives as well which, in my opinion, include just playing friendlies and/or actually utilizing and effective classification system.

Another point is this. If your DD will go to a competitive 5A school and desires to play varsity as a freshman, do you really think that she will be ready on tryout day by playing 16U in NTX? It makes sense that a kid has a better shot of making a team that will play against 18U pitching if she's already faced said 18U pithcing; right?
