For Those That Know

There is nothing wrong with HS Softball, it has it's own lessons to be learned. The only issue I guess is if your DD isn't getting the play time you think she deserves you can't just go off and coach your own team.

DD's HS struggles every year for lack of talented players. Last year we were thrilled that we had 8 girls with at least some travel experience, although without an actual pitcher, things went about as well as one would expect. This year, we lost 2 travel players to grad. and gained one Freshman that can't be used because she's a transfer.
Pearland is lucky to have that many players, they always compete very well against the better area teams. Don't pull her out of HS softball to play travel because after her Freshman year, she won't have ANYTHING to do during that time period unless she plays another sport. There are NO 16u or 18u tournaments during HS season.
Side note...I know one Freshman Pearland player personally that I think has a good shot at making Varsity and it's NOT because she's fast.
To the OP...At most schools those numbers mean nothing, as said before, if she can catch and throw the ball they can play (sometimes that isn't even a requirement :x ). It all depends on the individual school and what players are already there. For the most part texasugly's answer is a good guage for everyone.

Pearland had a heck of starting 9 last year and finished 2nd in the 5A State HS championship. 7 out of the 9 were left handed hitters and pretty fast. There were quite a few select players in that starting group including a player from the Impact Gold. There were no visible weaknesses anywhere. I would not be surprised a freshman did not make their starting line-up. For some of you parents who have not witnessed Texas HS softball playoffs in the latter stages and at the state level, this is pretty good softball. How many of your girls have played in front of 1,500 yelling fans, with half cheering for your team and the other half cheering for the other? I haven't seen this similar fan interest - Oh yes, the NCAA championships! No I am not a Pearland parent.

I have no doubt that once teams are deep in the playoffs, the softball is pretty good. I just have never seen it nor will likely see in the next 3 years  I would love it though!

With the exception of abuse, my suggestion to the OP is to mind your manners and keep your mouth closed. If your kid is good, you dont need to tell anyone who she plays for or who is looking at her, it will be obvious. Help out with the fund raisers, make sure your kid keeps working on whatever her thing is, pitching, fielding, hitting, in whatever time she has outside of school practice and homework. And remember, it ends in May - or maybe early June if you are really good.

I really don't know where this post is coming from. I was asking for some factual information on softball times and you want to throw out unsolicited advise.
Guess that is what to expect on HB.

Bats, chill, I have been around this for a few years - what I am saying is that for one, since you dont use your name on here, I have no idea who you are. No one can give you usable 'factual information' on times and stats - no one - in most places, if there is a hole on the team, your kid will play. If she knows the correct order to run the bases, your kid will play. You want factual information, run H21 in 2.51, run 11.03 in h2h, hit leadoff on a major travel team and you dont fit the mold the coach wants, you wont play. This is not select ball, this is high school. What you are bringing up, is nonsense. Take hs for what it is, a chance for your dd to play ball around the kids she grew up with, it probably wont be very high level because the h/s coach has to take what he/she gets, some of your competition will be great, most of it you could beat with your kids 10u team 4-5 years ago. Someone brings this stuff up every year about this time and yes, i should have been more patient, but I'm not.

Donnie,

How dare you give your unsolicited opinion in a public forum where someone is asking for everyone's advice? Just what do you know about HS softball? You have only been involved in sofball in your community and HS program every since your kids have been old enough to play in both. It is not like you raised some very talented kids. I belive one plays for a major D1 here in our great state(psst any kid can do that). K is probably on her way to D1 ball too (psst 2 in one family) anyone can do that. You just mind your P&Q's buddy apparantly you have no clue about the sport of softball.

*Please note all the sarcasm in my post*

Bats,
Donnie is a pretty wise softball guy it may pay to listen to some of the things he tells you.

Have a good day.

I think it was an excellent question. Don't let the "HB cliques" discourage you. I would like to see what high school speeds are around the US, also. Just wish you would've had more replies as to actual speeds. If you have a question then ask it. Take the info that you like and throw the trash away. Good luck to your dd.

bats, those things are good to know - but not for h/s ball - look them up in the recruiting camps, www.NFCA.Org are the ones I know about, but forget the 14 y/o stuff, you need to look at 18 y/o because thats who you are competing against. Thats also the reason I push 14 y/o (8th graders and up) that are around here to play 18u - if h/s is what you are interested in, and most of us texans are at first, play 18u for sure, and 18g wouldnt hurt. Sorry for my lack of patience - and fats, its cliques not Click. Bats, wait until your kids are older, then come and look back at these posts.
