There are different types of speed: Sprinting speed vs Base Running Speed; Softball Speed vs Track Speed; etc...

Everything is relative to the situation. So for this conversation (Home to First Speed), this is how our team times.

Runner is behind Foul Line on 3rd Base side. START time when runner's first STEP hits the ground. STOP time when runner steps on First Base.

Using this method our team is between 2.70 and 3.25.

What method does your team use to time Home to First?

The way that I understand scouts clock home to first, and this goes for baseball and softball, is that they start the clock once the batter has committed the lead elbow towards a pitch and hands cross the plate which causes there momentum to begin taking them to first base.

I guess for the sake of posting times home to first starting the clock on the first step will work. We clock the way the scouts do and this will ensure that the girls are getting out of the box quicker after each time the ball is put in play.

Thanks Slap... That is interesting, I had not heard of this method.
