College Showcase Tournaments That Got Your DD Recruited

by TXfastpitchsoftball » Thu Apr 24, 2008 10:08 pm

Wondering how many Texas parents/coaches believe their DD/player was primarily recruited as a result of playing in the Easton Elite Showcase, Texas Glory/Miken, Ronald McDonald or another Texas showcase tournament rather than participation in Gold qualifiers, ASA national tournament, and/or one of the out-of-state college showcase tournaments, especially the maor California showcases.

I trying to collect data on which tournaments actually played "the" pivatol role in getting your DD/player recruited/noticed and without that single event perhaps she didn't get recruited, especially 16u ASA Nationals, Californai showcases, Colorado showcase, East Elite, Texas Glory/Miken, and Ronald McDonald. In particular, how many parents/coaches believe the scholarship offer/showing up on a college coach's "radar/recuiting list" was primarily as a result of DD's participating at 16u ASA National Tournament.

Great topic

My older DD benifited from the exposure tournaments. She was originally noticed at the RMD and that carried over into the Fireworks tournament in Colorado. At the 16U A National I was amazed to see the large amount of college coachs that attend. I can say that she recieved a few letters from 16A Nationals but here decision was already made on a school.

I have friends ( that were HS seniors) who have attended the Firworks, RMD and Elite. They gave all the credit to those tournaments for their DD getting a offer. These girls did not go to a major D1, but they are attending good schools and playing softball with a little financial help.

Fall tournaments; Ronald McDonald and Rising Stars. For summer, the Boulder Independence Day and Team New Jersey.

Although all these recruiting tournaments are great, we found playing on a team that qualifies for Gold every year was the biggest factor in getting the coaches to watch your team.

But just don't go the these tournaments and hope they will see you. Be sure to send them your bio and game schedules ahead of time. Be a squeaky wheel!

Thank you for the response, but most folks already can list the big name tournaments. Most everyone also already knows you have to do your homework, make your own contacts, emails, skills videos, etc.

What I'm really looking for is what most people (not just the top 15 Gold teams) really considered to be "the" showcase that got their kid recruited: 16u "A" National, Easton Elite, Ronald McDonald, Rising Stars, Team New Jersey, Boulder, Fireworks, Las Vegas, Champions Cup, America's Finest, Sparkler, Pennsbury, Carolina Dynamite, Music City Hits, etc. Which showcase played the pivotal role to get her recruited and/or noticed on the radar?

And, if you know or have an opinion, what was it about "the" showcase that cause your daughter to get recruited: outstanding performance, how she compared to others playing in the showcase, top regional player in a regional showcase, did the coaches that attended seem to be more proactive than other events, just plain old pure luck, got drunk with the college coach in the hotel lobby, etc.

As an additional topic, what tournaments were a waste of time despite all of your really, really hard work before the tournament to make contacts with coaches, etc.

Those were the tournaments that got my daughter seen and recruited. We did no video, only sent e-mails. My point being, you can go to all the showcase tournaments you want to get seen, but if you want 20-40 coaches watching her play, you have to get on the best team in your state or even one from another. She went from getting 2 letters to over 40 in a couple of months after changing teams. You don't need videos or to even do the NFCA camps if you're on a top-notch team. The coaches come because of the team's reputation.

Maybe my question is asking for something that really can't be identified. I'm more interested in the "quality" of the subsequent contact/communication/subsequent followup/recruiting by college coaches following a showcase event listed. The number/increase in recruiting "letters" really doesn't mean anything if there is no followup, coach initiated personal contact, recruiting trip offers, deals struck, etc. Of these letters received, were the actual scholarship offers (were there multiple offers?) from coaches who attended all of the events or just one or two. I agree on the top teams reputations, but outside of California, you're talking about three or four teams per state. That effects only a handful of players.

I really liked the Easton Elite showcases played at Mckinney. Every team got a couple of games at the main fields and thats where the coaches are. She was watched more by coaches she had contacted than at Ronald mcDonald, where you usually don't get games at the main fields(unless your on a high profile team). Also a good # of out of state coaches came by to watch at the Fireworks tourney.
