If you expect any other country to give meaningfully at all, let alone until it hurts, you're flat out dreaming. If you expect us to give more, well...F you if you want to do it at the end of a gun (i.e., via taxation).

Second, it is a fundamental law of economics that if you subsidize something, you will get more of that thing. Pay people who are impoverished, and you get more people who make poverty inducing decisions (like having more kids when they can't feed the ones they have). Remove the consequences of bad decisions, and you remove the most important incentive for people to make good ones. This is why you cannot buy off poverty. It's been tried everywhere. Including here.

Your post illustrates my point quite well. Thank you!

There are plenty of good non-liberal Democrats. They are merely confused as to where their allegiances should lie, given their actual beliefs. There are NO good liberals. Well-meaning liberals, sure...but the road to hell and all that...

"Democrat" refers to a political party affiliation that may or may not reflect adherence to a core set of liberal beliefs. "Liberal" by definition reflects adherence to that core set of beliefs. And the beliefs are fubar.

Now if you personally adhere to those fantastical and unabashedly fascist beliefs, then wear the liberal label proudly. Like I wear the conservative label proudly. I'll happily defend my positions on their merits, and don't really care whether someone uses the conservative moniker in a pejorative way. It just shows what they (don't) know. But if, on the other hand, you disavow the core beliefs defined by the liberal label, then surely you must recognize how insidious those beliefs are...in which case I don't understand what your issue is.

Liberals take our liberty and take our property every minute of every day. And no matter how much they take, they always want more. So don't expect us to sit here and talk all respectful and nicey-poo. Ain't gonna happen.

But I do still want you to bear my love-child. Muah!

Carolina Fan, while I am sure you are a good person of good intent...I believe what frustrates most conservatives is the whole thought they they are big business for the rich and against helping people when it is usually the opposite..
Helping people, contrary to belief , is not just giving someone something for nothing , but making them earn what they are given.

You are absolutely right..there are good and bad..Democrats and Republicans..
I am sure there are conservative Democrats and more liberal Republicans, but for the most part all fall to party lines and the public unfortunately is general misinformed..

It is the same with picking on Bush...maybe not the best President, but actually it was he that went to the senate concerned about "allowing" anyone to buy a house..foreseeing the housing
crisis and foreclosure nightmares..
It was Barney Frank that opened the door to that bottomless pit...
Generally the public never digs deep enough to get all the facts..

Here is a link to last years voting in the senate...you might be surprised at what you see...

Republicans voting for lower taxes and more state control to lower cost...

Generally voted down by the majority Democrats..

Any more questions?

The French weren't complaining when the US occupied France to free them from the Germans. Oh how soon they forget. They are currently, silently being occupied by Muslims, 11 percent of the population, they will soon, once again ask us to free them.

By the way, it is a distinctly liberal propensity to "take offense" at the things that other people say. As I have written elsewhere, this is because ideas for liberals are intensely personal. Which is why liberals are generally incapable of principled discourse and/or intellectual honesty, and why they always have to demonize those who disagree with them. In short, liberals "reason" from emotion...which is to say that they don't truly reason at all.

Statements and ideas are either true/valid, or they are not, and emotional reactions, like taking offense, neither change that nor add analytical value. Quite the contrary, in fact.

Oh yeah....only liberals show a "propensity to take offense".....I guess all the right-wing talk show hosts who "took offense" to the Rev. Wright were closet liberals!

Comparing liberals to paid muckrakers is rather apt, but that doesn't make it a useful analogy.
