Fresno Force Tournament "Best Stories"

What's on your mind?

by heybucket » Sun Apr 27, 2008 8:27 pm

Ok now that the tournament is over let us know. What Heybucket member did you meet at the tournament. And best games that you saw. (10U, 12U and 14U) 8-)

I wanted to meet intel and wade but I didn't find them. Oh well maybe next year. I got to meet lakers32 nice guy. I was looking for BIG PAPA he didn't go to fresno.

Now the best part is that some of our new members have their own heybucket idols. Someone wanted to meet Spazsdad but he was afraid to approach him and say hi to him lol :?

Best game I saw was OC Wildcats-Corona Angels(Tyson). Corona was up 4-0 in the last inning. 'Cats scored 6 runs, to take a 6-4 lead. Angels came back, cut lead to 6-5. 2 outs, runner tried to score on a past ball and was thrown out at the plate, end of game(I did NOT see that play, dang it, lol!). Anyway, that was a great game to watch. Also, Wildcat/Crunch game was awesone too. 'Cats battled back from 6-2 deficit, to take 7-6 lead, only to fall, 9-7. Great game!! And, our elimination game against SoCal Madness was a great game to watch(coach) too. We won in 2 innings of ITB, 3-2. Great game......
Go.....
Angels,
Raiders,
Lakers,
Trojans!

What a great weekend! It looked like all the teams were about as amp'd up as they could be...

I have to say, my favorite thing, aside from just being at some really great games was watching the incredibly high level of play the Corona Angels displayed in our game against them Saturday evening. I'd always heard about those fabled few SoCal teams and we weren't the least bit disappointed. I think our Roseville Heat team stuck with them for about an inning and a half before the floodgates opened on us!

The other thing that was actually pretty sad was watching the 12u San Jose Sting coach get run on Sunday. Admittedly, the call was interesting when an inside pitch rode up and in even further and hit the batter in the hand/bat area. The knock sure sounded like a comp bat knock, and the PU called foul ball, but the batter immediately grabbed her hand and clearly was in pain. Coach @ 3b sure didn't agree either and came in to discuss the finer points of umpiring and judgment, even offering a few observations about umpire power trips. When ol' blue emphatically pointed to a bird hovering overhead nearby, the coach went ballistic and the larger, more inappropriate commentary bombs really started dropping. The BU had to physically restrain the coach as he started toward the PU. As the two separated, the other coaches started in and the PU clearly warned them all that they were on the verge of a forfeit. Fortunately, that quieted them down and eventually they did win in a very close game.

Thanks to the gang at the Fresno Force for a terrific tournament. Next time though, keep the snack bar open and have enough stock! Running out of virtually everything by noon on Sunday and closing up by 2 or 3 is tough in 85-90* weather. (Fresno Sports Complex...)
Being from NorCal, what do I know anyway???

Whew!
What a weekend!
Here are my observations:
Got to meet some Lil Rebels coaches and dads while we were watching the final:
no nothin and vegas dad.
hope the fishing was good and the beer was cold at your rented house by the lake you were telling me about.
numero uno, always good to talk with you, and i told your coach your team gets better every time we play you.

Friday night:
Didnt get on the road (from OC) until about 6:30pm.
On hwy 99, I noticed there is more than one variation of "that smell" during the drive.
One spot woke my kid up it was so bad.
There was the usual "cow a$$" smell.
there was something like "cut grass and a$$" smell.
there was factory-burnt rubber a$$ smell.
there was a "norco a$$" smell.
and then some type of "boone's farm strawberry hill wine and a$$ smell...huh...

somewhere on hwy 99, someone came up speeding behind me. i moved over and a truck with a giant 2'x2' raider emblem on its back window sped by...my first thought was "looks like a jynx family is as late as i am"... just kidding guys!

so we got to the holiday inn hotel about 11:30pm....seems that some rooms had been damaged and they had overbooked. they sent us across town to picadilly. saw alot of corona, tnl, mg, renegades, wicked stickers on cars...by the time we got in the room and turned the lights out, it was 12:45am...made the 6:30am field arrival pretty tough....
plus we had to check out to go back to the original holiday inn for saturday night...

our pool game saturday vs impact was the best game we have been involved in all season.
0-0 through 7 innings, we scored one in 8th inning itb, impact came back with 2 in their half to win....
i was very proud of my team's effort all weekend.
sunday the 4 games in the heat took it's toll, but again, i was proud of my girls for hanging in there. props to my kid for pitching all week with giant blisters on both heels from new shoes she wore on her school field trip friday...thanks to our team "cut man" paul for wrapping her ankles up in such a way so she could function...

so we lost to impact in the semi's, and a big congrats to OC Impact on the victory and corona on the finalist spot. us and aa's tied for 3rd...jeez, we play all you guys almost every weekend, it was a long drive just to see you all in the end again, but worth it.
Scott, you have a great team, and your girls all play with class and sportsmanship.
we stayed and watched most of the championship, which got us back in OC around midnight...

Also, props to Cerritos Franchise: Brad has done a great job with his team and after knocking off bomb squad, they gave us everything we could handle in the quarters.

also, we got a 31 and a 32 techzilla for the weekend. reviews from the girls were great, bat feels alot lighter. some of the girls who like the balanced bats really did well...

Also thanks to fresno force for running a great tournament.

Couldn't have asked for better weather, warm but a nice breeze. Buchanan field relented on the ice chest restriction lest every one risk dehydration.

I met NumeroUno and Nzane - great guys!

Can't say a bad thing about NumeroUno - even if I could. I don't want to be the newbie who gets the banned for life button!
