Big XII, SEC, Conference USA. Sunbelt, WAC, and Southland?

by TXfastpitchsoftball » Thu Jan 28, 2010 12:50 pm

Wondering what the Texas hey bucket crowed thinks about the future of the bottom/middle of the pack teams in the Big XII, SEC, Conference USA. Sunbelt, WAC, and Southland?

Who has no hope of turning it around. And if they can, will it require a coaching change, new facilities, etc.

If you were the parent of 12u, 14u, or 16u kid, where would you be looking? Who seems to be "winning" the recruiting wars to break out of the bottom/middle of the pack in these regional conferences?

I can see Stephen F. Austin making positive moves. We've been to a couple of their camps and were impressed with the coaching staff. I think they will continue to improve and gain some recruiting clout.

I second that, SFA seems to be making some very positives changes. The problem I see for them is that the softball field is part of a youth complex and not a stand alone field on their campus. For some that will be a let down. Although they are reuilding the field with "new" stands, etc. It doesn't help that it's away from campus, I can't imagine a big turnout from the student body. I could be wrong though (I hope so anyway).
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

It seems like Texas State is really hot after coming off of a great season. They have good recruits on paper and they have a great new stadium.

SFA has been predicted pre-season 1 or 2 for several years in a row. I can not understand why they have not performed better. They have a great coach and great recruits.

Sam Houston has 8 or 9 seniors this year. ( the same group that made it to the regionals several years back) They should make a very good run.

UTSA signed and have several top recruits. They are building a solid program for the very near future.

It seems like A/M has a direct pipe line to the Impact Gold, from now and leading into the future. One would have to this that they are going to be really good.

I am not so sure about Texas. I do not know why girls left the program ( only know rumors) but it should take a toll of the program. Hopefully young pitching can pull through this season, and they have soph. that can crush the ball.

Oklahoma is pulling in top texas talent and very top California talent. I would think they are the team to beat in the Big 12.

Texas Tech is in a big transition period. They have a new coach and its still Lubbock.

Baylor seems to pull top talent from the Dallas area, but they have struggled over the past few years. They have a solid coach but injuries have hurt his team.
North Texas is pushing the envelope and being very active in recruiting. They are bringing in very solid hitter and pitchers. I expect them to step up and make a run at a conference title.

I'm really looking for what other people think about the middle/bottom half of each conference (Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Auburn, ULM, North Texas, Northwestern, Texas State, etc.) Everyone knows that OU, Baylor, and Texas A&M are perennial powers.

LD, are you talking about the softball field that are ajacent to the baseball field? Those are very good - equivalent to A&M, Baylor, etc. The fields that are away from the campus are their practice fields - not bad, but not like their regular field. Their regular field dugouts are really nice and have bathrooms inside the dugout. The grass in perfect and the stands are huge.

Donnie, I think you are confusing Texas State and SFA. The complex where SFA plays is at the city park several miles from campus. It is a HUGE negative in recruiting I would think, but I could be wrong? That said, this was exactly the kind of school that I was talking about . I see SFA making a huge move up the ladder. . . that said, why are they verballing 2012s? Are these kids "impact" players that will elevate them against teams like Texas A&M, Baylor, ULL, etc.
