thinking about getting in a 12u league for the spring but cant find just a whole lot of info on em online.

anybody know who's running a good one this spring and who is playing where?

Lewisville puts on a pretty good one: http://www.lbasports.net/
They play at Lake Park. Not much info on their website or it's not easy to find anyway.

McKinney does one. We played in it 2 springs ago and it was the worst managed league I have ever been involved with going back to my own playing days. They also have no easily found material regarding select leagues on their site but here it is: http://www.mckinneygsa.com/ They play at Craig Ranch which is nice but unless they've made some internal changes, I wouldn't waste your time.

LBA/Lewisville Force Select has been hosting Select Softball leagues for three years now. They have been very successful and the teams who particpate seem to really enjoy their experience.
We host the leagues to promote softball in our area and give teams a chance to get some games in against other select teams without having the pressure and costs of tournament play.
We will host 10U, 12U and 14U this spring.
400.00 per team for 10 games (5 double headers)
75 min games
Bat the roster, free subs

We are in the process of inviting and advertising our league at this time. Its still a little early because teams are still having try outs. I should be able to post a confirmed list in the next few weeks. I have had interest from quite a few teams. Only a few are confirmed at this time. Here is a list short list of interested teams or teams that participated in the fall. . We will probably have at least 6 teams in each division. We do not pick and chhoose. First six paid teams are in for each age division.

We played 12u in the Spring and moved to 14U in the Fall and had a lot of fun out in Lewisville. Doug puts a lot of effort into it for us. The girls saw some great teams. It's a good place to allow developing players to learn a new position.

I have also been involved in 10U in McKinney (twice) and Carrollton/Farmers Branch leagues. My experience in McKinney was better the first time and when my younger daughter played a few years later, the coach opted for CFBSL after the season. I think the costs were higher at CR as well.

MGSA is looking for some Select teams who want to play in our Select League this Spring. MGSA has brought on a Select League director to help grow this program.

If you are interested in playing 12 games in six weeks then contact me ASAP, registration ends March 28th (edited). It will take 5 teams for the leagues to make. We will also put together a Round Robin tournament at the end of the league to help the teams prepare for Nationals in the Summer.

All Games will be held at beautiful Craig Ranch off 121 and Alma (corrected).

SELECT TEAMS

Fees are $500.00 per team
No player individual checks, we will only except one check for the full amount
This fee does not include trophies, uniforms or equipment
Double Header League with a 12 game season

Nights of Play for the Select Divisions:

Monday 10U
Thursday 12U & 14U (changed dates to allow for local high schools to field teams and participate)
Tuesday 8U Machine Pitch

I will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability. First thanks for reminding me it's off of Alma not Custer, with all the snow lately I confused my streets. Also I just goofed on that, no excuses. The first step that I believe MGSA is doing to try and improve our select league is bringing someone on board dedicated to one thing, improving the select league. I remember last fall when I was looking for someone to contact with MGSA in order to register for the select league. Problem was, there was no one person who had ownership of the select league. Instead I would talk to many different contacts on the board with no final answer on what was going to happen. I spent many emails last fall talking to other coaches trying to figure out if they would be interested in playing in the MGSA select league. I heard a lot of complaints from the other coaches about:

- Organization
- Glorified scrimmages
- Horrible pitching
- No post season tournament
- No trophies (yes even from select coaches)
- No scorekeeping

Overall these were some of the comments I heard about the MGSA select league. To me these are very fixible issues.

- Organization : make one person a point of contact and make that person available
- Glorified scrimmages : nothing we can really do about a team/coaches attitude on the field, but let's do something to make it mean something to the players. Have a league MVP award or a Top Team award for the team that dominates during the regular season (these are just some ideas)
- Horrible pitching : I heard that in the select league the select teams pitched their pool pitchers to get them game time experience. We believe if we get enough competitive like (corrected spelling) minded individuals that this should help itself out
- No post season tournament : We will try to put together a round robin post season tournament
- No trophies : We will give the coaches the option to Opt-In for trophies for their league
- No scorekeeping : we will have scorekeeping and will develop a site to show league standings and scores

These are just some of the things I overheard last fall that we think can be fixed easily. Other then that we believe we have the best fields in Collin County and if we can fix some of the items above we can provide a avenue for our select teams to play competitively.
