Has anyone heard of Manny Messa?

by larry111 » Mon Feb 08, 2010 2:37 pm

One of my players is going to him for batting lessons. Me and my coaches looked at the style she has been learning from him and had some questions. I ask the parent to get me Manny's number because I wanted to talk to him. The parent sent me this email.

I told him yesterday that you wanted his number. He asked me not to give
> it out, because there would be no way he could explain it over the phone,
> and lessons are private. He is not taking any new students, and does not
> allow visitors other than parents. Sorry I tried

The parent told me that this was some guy brought from California by Team Muzuno and D-Bat to teach batting to the players. I have contacted people involved in both organization and no one has heard of him. I have never encountered a batting coach that refuses to speak to the head coach of the team his student is playing for. Does anyone on here know how to get in touch with him or who he is?

Thanks

The only Manny involved with either of these teams is Manny Meza the coach of Team Mizuno '98 and if you actually asked Team Mizuno if they had heard of him then they would have said yes. He has no affiliation with D-bat, but he does give hitting lessons. If you would like to call him his number is on VTD, but after this silly post of yours I wouldn't want anything to do with you.

My DD has taken batting lessons from Manny Mesa and she took very well to his instructions and fundamental teachings and has excelled with confidence and power at the plate. I would assume that most successful instructors might keep a lot of there instructions somewhat private, if not it might take away from his student base.

Manny got hitting instruction from Rod Carew, from what I understand, while playing with the California Angels orginazation so I am fairly confident that what he is teaching can and will be successfull, especially from what I have heard from previous postings from non-biased parents in regards to how well his students stood out at a recent d-bat clinic.

A good comparison would be with anyone with there own secret formula to a well cooked meal, or BBQ, you just don't give up the secret ingredients!!! :)

Thanks everyone for your input but I just spoke to Manny and he helped me understand what he was teaching. That was all I was looking for.

Larry-

Did you have a conversation with the kid first to see if she was actually doing what Manny is teaching? I haven't had a kid make a perfect swing yet, but coaches tend to think everything in a kids swing is by design...and if a kid is doing it wrong, the instructor must be teaching it wrong.

Ask the kid, she should be able to communicate why she is doing something in the swing.

I think it goes a long way with the kids to include them in these conversations.

Yes, he is a coach for Team Mizuno.

My daughter has been taking lessons from him for about a month now. She was a decent hitter before but with Manny's instruction she is hitting the ball more sharply and with authority. He is a very patient teacher and we could not have asked for a better hitting coach. We are excited to see her swing in upcoming tournaments.

Oh, my daughter does play with D-bat and it is a great convenience for us because of scheduling and the drive. He has worked out great and has been perfect for our situation.

He has a simple aproach and it is very easy to understand his instruction.
