Insurance Questions - All Tournament Directors and Teams

by larry111 » Thu Feb 11, 2010 8:16 pm

This past weekend several things were announced by ASA at the JO workshop in Oklahoma City, OK. I have heard a lot more that has come out in local area meetings held by various individuals and a lot of it is pertaining to insurance. I dont know exactly what was announced at the workshop, but this is what I have been told by teams and tournament directors:

Teams with Bollinger Insurance will not be covered if they play in a non ASA event.
Bollinger will not name VTD or any other sanction as an additionally insured.

What we do know is for an ASA team to play an ASA championship event, Bollinger insurance is REQUIRED. In the 2009 season, there was a $5 team policy that could be purchased to allow an ASA registered team to play in an ASA event if they had a different insurance policy. This year the $5 option will not be offered.

I have been in contact with Bollinger to better understand the situation. After doing some research and work with Wilson Sports Insurance (Our Insurance Company), teams that have Bollinger Insurance will be able to play in any VTD, IFA or Pony Tournament. Our insurance provided by ACE and Mutual of Omaha covers the event where Bollinger has excluded coverage for teams that have purchased Bollinger Insurance for the 2010 season.

Please understand that the insurance we have made available is for ALL participation in youth amateur softball regardless of sanction. Additionally VTD, IFA and Pony do NOT require you to carry our insurance.

Tournament directors have been asked to get an additionally insured certificate if a team has another form of insurance other than that provided through VTD by Wilson Sports. Since teams with Bollinger Insurance will not be able to get a certificate naming another organization as an additionally insured, these teams with Bollinger Insurance will not need to provide the additionally insured certificate.

Look forward to seeing you on the field!

President, VTD Sports, Inc.

They are wrong. As long as all players on a team are individually registered with Bollinger Insurance, the team is covered regardless of the sanctioning body of the tournament.

This is taken from the Bollinger Brochure on the ASA Website...

7. Does the insurance coverage follow a player who plays on
another team or goes to play in a non-ASA sanctioned
event?
i. Yes, the coverage follows the player who plays on a team
that is registered with ASA/USA Softball for the current
year.
ii. Yes, the coverage follows the player if she/he goes on
her/his own to play on an ASA/USA Softball registered team
in an ASA/USA Sanctioned Tournament.
iii. Yes, the coverage follows the players on an individually
registered team if the team plays in a non-ASA sanctioned
event.
iv. No, the coverage does not apply if the player plays on a
team that is not registered with the ASA.
v. No, the coverage does not apply if the player goes on
her/his own to play in a non-ASA sanctioned event.

Everyone who has questions about the insurance please be sure to come out next Wednesday to the Burleson Public Library. Allen will be there to answer questions. The meeting is from 6:30pm to 8:00pm

I don't want any cheese...but ASA is really making themselves look bad here in NTX. I think (I could be wrong) that they are making this decision to play VTD vs ASA personal. They are forgetting about the reason they joined ASA was to provide an avenue for the girls to play some ball. They are trying their hardest to make VTD sound bad and to discourage people from playing anything but ASA in NTX. This is bad for business IMO. Telling people they won't take anyone elses insurance but theirs, their insurance won't cover anyone but only in ASA events. Scare tactics...

There is a lot of rumors and half truths being spread around about ASA and their insurance, website, etc.. I was at the ASA JO Workshop last week and I am here to help you understand. We are listening to our coaches and leagues and getting them what they are asking for.

1. Dallas ASA will have it's own website in a couple of weeks to help navigate our local tournaments and have updates on important events and league updates.

2. We will have ASA Sanctioned Tournaments along with Sanctioned 1 Day Events and Coaches Workshops.

3. Active Deputies for each age division, so they can familirize themselfes with each team and their players.

4. Me or one of my deputies will be happy to walk you through the registration process and help you navigate through the new website. Just like anything new it is hard to know how to use it unless you know how.

Coaches feel free to call me or email me about any question you may have concerning ASA.

Joe sorry I missed your last name. I doubled checked my post and didn't mentioned any association except ASA.

I will be happy to answer any of your questions and why you should choose ASA for your team.

It's the middle of Febuary, why have you taken so long? Everyone knew the split was coming last year. I could care less about your petty battles in Dallas but you guys are all making yourselves look bad with the way this is all being handled

Agreed...we just wanna play ball! I think i'm going to start looking forward to High School ball the way the tournament scene is here :(...told my wife the other day with all the snow we might have to move to Cali to play ball.
