DFW Umpires and Tournament Hosts

[VTD Softball]

We are dealing with a "positive" problem; but its still a problem. The problem is that tournaments are making and actually filling therefore there are not enough VTD events being run in the DFW metroplex.

We are presently in need of two things:

1. Tournament Directors with Facilities
2. Umpires & UICs
Tournament Directors:
If you are wanting to host an event, please feel free to contact one of the deputy commissioners or commissioners in your area if you want to learn more. OR, simply create a tournament director account and request an event and someone will be in contact with you.

Umpires:
We are presently putting together a list of umpire organizations and contacts that are working VTD events. What the challenge has been is that a lot of the existing leadership is tightly tied to ASA and they are not willing to work with VTD.

Details for Umpire Organizations:

1.The VTD rules are virtually ASA rules to make things simple for the teams and umpires for 2010. The reason we have a rule book is so we can have something to distribute to the teams freely.
2.Umpire Registration is $15 per umpire and this includes a background check, insurance and an ID card.
3.We are not requiring that an umpire nor an umpire organization be strictly VTD. We just want good umpires to take the work we have today.
4.Uniforms are basically TASO or UIL with a VTD cap. Powder blue shirt, grey slacks, black shoes.

Soon we will be helping the Umpire organizations that are listed by marketing their program for events as well as for new recruits.

I guess I kinda have two points about this (my .02)..."presently putting together a list"...ummm there are tournaments this weekend...I hope that list gets put together pretty quickly like within the next day. And ASA not willing to work with VTD...Mr. Richardson I would say the best thing to do is to get into the rec leagues with your VTD umpires. I could be wrong, but i'm assuming ASA is ok to lose a month or so of revenue to VTD because their rec league programs are still going and their ASA umps are umping there...so no big loss for ASA on that point and during this time they can try to stronghold VTD by not allowing their umps to ump VTD tournaments...in hopes that people will say hey i'm going to put up with ASA's website and good old boy mentality versus the VTD umps...soo my advice...start training and reaching out to young umps and get them into the rec leagues and league associations. just my .02

I don't want to confuse my request with needing umpires for events scheduled. And yes this weekend is staffed with experienced umpires throughout the state. Those have been taken care of as many of the existing umpire organizations are ready, registering and willing to work VTD events. There are some challenges that we are dealing with some future events but the main problem is areas that want to host VTD events that can't because they don't already have umpire organizations that are willing to call VTD ball. (Three different cities yesterday alone.)

What the list will be for is organizations or teams that are interested in hosting a fundraiser event via VTD. This will be a contact list for them for their umpire needs. The other reason for the listing is because we want to help them recruit people that are interested in being trained as an umpire in their organization.

Not trying to reinvent the wheel, just trying to make it simpler.

I have paid VTD 190.00 and ASA 250.00 and can’t get my team in a tournament. The only one rolling is VTD and they have 100 teams signing up for each tournament. Signed up second for Allen, registered my team and paid our money. TD shows 10 teams approved. When I contacted him he told me he is holding checks from teams but waiting for them to get their paper work done. I call BS. Approve the teams that have done what they are supposed to do. Strike one for VTD.
It is still very difficult to find and register for ASA tournaments. ASA has really dropped the ball with their web site and tournaments. Strike one for ASA. They should be embarrassed. Hopefully they will get their act together and soon.
I don’t care what association is putting on tournaments. We just want to play.
I hope that both parties are ashamed of the expense and difficulty they are causing the teams and the kids.

It's a shame when grown adults act like 10 year olds or greedy SOB's to pad their pockets at the expense of the kids. See, to them it's truly about the $$$ and kids be damned if they don't get their $$$. It's capitalism at its best!!

All teams want to do is play in games. Last year you could find a ASA, USFA, Pony tournament to play in. There was no one side or the other. Our team played both ASA and USFA and used the same insurance, player cards for both. I miss those days and it was not even a year ago. I really do not care who started what (ASA or VTD) but now you have the different parks thinking they have to decide one way or the other. I have yet to see any rules anywhere that states that you have to decide ASA,VTD,USFA or Pony. If the parks and TD will just tell the big associations that they will host what they want then there is nothing they can really do about it. The perfect way to do it is to make all tournaments in the area a multi sanctioned events that way no matter what insurance you have or what your national goals are all can compete and earn the points and berths needed.
The last time I checked the teams are the consumers and we drive the market.
If the Associations do not want to play our way then we just hold friendlies and rent the fields directly from the cities, split the costs and let the parks and TD's sweat it out for a change.
