Kids are babied too much now days in my opinion. They don't ever truly get in shape, hence why you see so many more injuries in today's game. Just MHO
I will somewhat agree with you, but I never had to practice to the extent that I see kids being pushed today. We never played HS sports on weekends, and club sports, travel ball, etc just weren't as demanding as they are today, at least not where/when I grew up. I played on a club soccer team when I was in middle school and the first two years of HS. We had either one practice or one game on a weekend and that was it. Yep, we played around on our own a lot, but I don't think it was at the same level as what you see today.
Speaking only for my DD, she is in shape, but a rest day or two per week is critical to staying in shape, and being able to maintain your fitness/strength level. In a recent week, she had 4 HS practices of 3 hours each, private hitting and pitching lessons 2 hours total plus warmup time and a two day tournament of 6 games during which she threw nearly 250 pitches. Come Sunday, she was worn out and needed the off day mentally, and physically. I never had a schedule like that when I was that age...
