Sorry for what happen.....But I see this every weekend girls not wearing mask.. USFA needs to enforce this they need not to be like MLB a waite for some to get killed before action is taken. I am talking about the coaches having to wear helmets. My daughter wears a ripit mask been hit a third playing up thank goodness for the mask she kept playing. If your kid is playing infield without a mask your an idiot no matter what age.

dgorsuch,
I was in Allen on other back field when it happened. I heard people yelling "Get some ice" and walked over to see what happened. Very scary few minutes for all involved. I have a daughter (we played you in Allen) that took a line drive to her temple area in practice when moving from 3rd to pitcher, coach tried to hit it to center fielder but hit her with a line drive instead. She was knocked from her feet and the only reason she was not in the hospital was that very corner of her mask made the ball slightly change its trajectory upward. She wears a mask when pitching some of the time (when she thinks the team is a big hitting team) but after seeing your daughter motionless last weekend I have made it mandatory for her.....she will either wear a mask or will not pitch. My 9 year old also took a line drive right back her a few weeks back, deflected from her glove and hit her mask. We wish your daughter a speedy recovery!

As she was going to the ground she looked at me a yelled, "Daddy help me". By the time I got to the mound she had a baseball sized contusion on her head and I was pretty sure her skull was crushed. At this point the thought crossed my mind that this might be life threatening. I told her I loved her and worked to keep her still along with the UIC and many other wonderful people at Allen Station who were helping out. She was rushed to the ER and immediately taken for a CT scan and x rays. We spent Monday at the Texas Spine Institute and Wednesday and Thursday getting MRI/brain scans. She has swelling on her brain, a concussion and neck injuries but will be ok with some rest and rehab.
Mask?
No Mask?
I hope no parent or coach ever has to experience what my team, coaches and parents experienced last weekend.
Wear the masks if you are pitching or playing corners!

I'LL BE DAMN. IT HAD TI HAPPEN FOR YOU TO REALIZE YOU SHOULD HAVE MADE HER WEAR IT "ALL" THE TIME. YOU AND HER ARE VERY LUCKY SHE IS ALIVE AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN TOTALLY AVOIDED WITH A $40 face mask.

i hope the rest of you jug heads see this and make your kids wear it.It ain't up to ASA, USFA, IFA, ect;.... It is up to your stupid a$$es as parents to make the right decision for your kid!!

Something has to be done to slow down the bats. Read the following article.

My DD will not pitch without a mask after seeing her team mate take a pitch to the head. Fortunately the girl was a good fielder and got her glove up enough to deflect straight on impact, but there is only so much reaction time. Two weeks later, we saw another good 12U pitcher get hit. The first time it happened, I was the first to the circle. I will not ever forget that pitch and line drive. It plays in my head like a movie. The 2nd time I was a spectator.

She loves the Rip it, but I promise you it has done nothing to give her a false sense of security. We spend a lot of time working on fielding after the pitch. I started by using lite flites. As soon as she would release, I would throw a lite flite at her. I see this as old school with some insurance.

I respect the opinions of those who dont care for the mask, but Im curious if any of you who are not in favor of making your DD wear one have ever seen first hand a girl hit in the head from a hit ball.

My DD thinks you parents are nuts. She has girls all the time ask her about it, and more than a few tell her that dear old dad thinks it is unnecessary.

I heard through the grapevine that college coaches will not even look at your kid if she wears a face mask. Is this true? I really do not know and am asking a reasonable question so please be sincere when answering.

We were out playing some much needed ball beore the storms hit and I was astounded to see how many girls did not have a facemask. my dd plays middle infield and doesn't wear a mask but shse has one if ever the need to play the corners. shse even says she wont go out there without on if she has to play that position. she has been hit in the face on a bad bounce at 6u and came out with just a slight bruise under her eye but still made the play to get the girl out. please please people make the right decision ad make your dds wear that mask!!

No, that is not true. The conference player of the year for 2009 speed in the mid 60s with great movement) in our area will not pitch without a mask and got a full ride.

The tide will change as the mask becomes less of a stigma ("hiding behind a mask") and more of the girls coming up wear them.
