Ever have a Blue tell a Pitcher she couldn't change balls if she didn't like it?

Had an ump say he didn't have to give her a new one until the start of a new inning. I've

watched probably 1000 games never heard this.

Heard it twice - both time it was a NSA blue - dont have his name anymore, I was told he was 'the best they had'. Scary. The TD came and apologized to my kid for it - why you wouldnt fire a blue as stupid as that is beyond me.

The umpire should have switched balls out for the pitcher. All he had to do with the ball she had was throw it out for whatever reason she could not throw it

Maybe that ump likes holding shinny new balls

not old scuffed up ones?

Good info Spazdad, our case was simpler than just choice. The grass was wet - and the ball needed to be dried - or exchanged for a dry ball - an easy situation. This particular blue had a bad case of nasty that whole week.

That umpire needs to have a priority check. If the ball is wet and the pitcher can't throw strikes, that quickly becomes a long day.

Wet ball situation, at first opportunity I'm calling time and directing the defensive player to get the ball to her coach to be dried as I put a dryer ball in play.

If the blue told my pitcher that and I took the ball and threw it over the fence into the woods, he/she would have to give my pitcher another ball...although I may have been watching the rest of the game from the parking lot, the look on the face may have been worth it.
