Just curious does the bat really make the difference? I mean these bats can get pretty pricey - I mean if it is the bat - heck yeah I'll fork over the money. My husband wants to be a cheapo and believes a good hitter can use any type of bat (even the cheapest bat) and give the ball a good rip. Every time we go to a sporting good stores me & my DD look at some nice (pricey) bats and my husband always says, "it's not the bat but the batter." Just curious to hear if parents really believe it is the bat or if it is the DD

Anyhow, my 9yr old (competative ball) plays on 2nd year 10u uses a Louisville Slugger TPS Zephyr. I wish we would have spent just a bit more for a RT but the weight was a concern. However, now we will wait a bit and then buy her a Techzilla since it has just about the same weight specs as the Zephyr

At your DD's age, any of the "pricey" bats is a good choice, but they definitely will outperform the "cheapo" version that your husband is pushing. In short, the bat matters. A cheap bat will cost you numerous hits a year and singles instead of doubles.

My DD swings an Rip it..she loves it. And since she hit .500 this season. I think she is a good hitter. And she hits yard. If there would have been fences she would have hit 4 in one game...Well there are fences they are 8 foot high and 300 yards away....she hit the fence all four times. She went from a catalyst to the rip it and has never picked the cat up again...she hit well with the cat also.

Good thoughts TXfastpitchsoftball and Spazsdad. The supposedly less expensive Zephyr bat we ended up buying really wasn't that less expensive being just over $200.00 with tax. My DD ended up hitting better/more consistent but more I beleive due to mentally she thought the "new" more "expensive" bat made her hit better or maybe it was the bat - which ever no complaints as long as her batting is improving I am curious as she is 9 years old when is a good age to start buying the RT, Techzillas, Miken, ect. My DD will use her Zephyr until she can no longer use it (from reading other posts on this site, use of composite bats in ASA will be eliminated sometime in 2009?)

I have to tell you that a 900' shot even one time will get Coach Condrea's attention. Even four 300' foot shots in one game surpasses Bustos' and Nuveman's all-time bests. Send him a copy of your post. You never know, when he stops laughing, he just might come take a look at your DD. At the very least, I'm sure that Rico will want your email.

You can laugh...she hit the fence four times, there was plenty of people there that saw it. I wouldn't put up something like that to embarrass her or me. The field they play on has a 300 foot fence I confirmed it with the parks and rec where the high school we played plays their home games. I didnt believe it myself until her old high school coach came up and told me.

Easy there...read your previous post as you indicated 300 yards...there is a big difference between 300 yards and 300 feet! Good for your DD!
