ASA vs VTD

by texdocbay » Tue Jun 22, 2010 6:27 pm

Now that a lot of the season has passed. Can we reflect on the split and say that it has been good for girls softball. Is the jury still out? DO we have to wait until August to really reflect and decide.

After we reflect, if it is commonly agreed that it has not been better for girls softball, then what can be done to fix it?

Good luck to all through the final month and big push..

We have played a total of 2 ASA tournaments this year vs. 8 VTD. ASA tournaments are not ever full and most of the (Decent) Umps have moved to VTD from what I can tell. FW ASA has done absolutely nothing to help their cause. Dallas ASA has at least tried but still needs to eliminate the Good Ol' Boy network there. UIC's are lazy and are not knowledgeable of most of the ASA rules they are supposed to enforce. VTD has a problem they need to correct which is abuse of the Website by certain DJO's. The tournaments are being ran mostly well and the UMPS are pretty good and the UIC's are helpfull except for 2 parks that I have seen.

Who is winning? I think VTD. However ASA could revive their reputation in the DFW area by simply changing the guard and doing something with their crappy website and registration portal. Needs to be more than what it is. JMO

Our team has played in 4 VTD and the same in ASA. The VTD website is obviously much more easy to navigate, sign up for tournaments, see tourney history and follow a teams sucess or failure. The Vtd has had better turnouts. But as far as the tournaments themselves, I have not been able to tell much of a difference. The umps always miss some calls, but thats just part of the game, ASA or VTD. I really can't tell a difference between the two. I don't have a allegiance or preference to either one. All I know is I have a 14 year old daughter, That I have been carrying around to different tourneys and complexes halfway across the country since she was 8. I cannot think of thing that I enjoy more than being out at a field watching her compete. I don't care if its ASA, VTD, USSSA, USFA or whatever else someone wants to call it. I personally give the ASA and VTD an A+, for just giving us and all of these young ladies the opportunity to play somewhere!!

I could not agree more BallFirst.
We have played about the same ratio but I would play more ASA if we could find and sign up for the tournaments more easily. Just no way to market and register tourneys for the parks.
Dave has done a very nice job with Dallas ASA and it has been noticed by many. We will continue to sign up for all and play in something. We just want to play ball and dont care about politics.

texdick...no, no my friend, I get the point..."as usual". VTD is kicking ASA's ass and you failed miserably in your attempt to spell "know". What else is there?

Now, back to Noe...What does she have to say about all of this?

I think it all depends on the age group. VTD is not even a real player in the top 16u or 18u classes. The only good tournaments - really round robins - being held for the top teams in those two age groups are being held by ASA and really at just one site in Irving.

Everything else is still all about ASA qualifiers being held throughout the state.

DD's team has played both. VTD has some of the better parks in play as of right now. ASA championship play is the way to play but most teams that play only ASA dont play Championship play. VTD's web site is easier to find things. Umpires are about the same. Some times they call it in your favor some times not. Its softball.

I am guessing Noe would ask, why Tex would need to know how to spell "know".

"Know that a lot of the season has passed."??????
