Question on Game times

And what about the time they spend talking betwen the innings instead of warm ups, the pitcher looks like shes throwing a pitching practice.

Yea, dont blame it on the balls being thrown around, lol! I've seen too many umps just let the pitcher throw forever, as he talks with the other ump. As far as running a Tourney? Come on, although I like Triple Crown, we paid $440 and had to provide GAME BALLS FOR EVERY GAME!! Dont cheat us out of time too............

We've played in a tournament in PA the past two years for this same reason. All Sunday games were seven innings.

Heres a big waste of time.. that umpires cant do anything about... unless we started calling balls, which no one likes to do.

Catcher not ready.

Coach takes 50 seconds to get out to help warm up his pitcher, who in the mean time has been doing the Chinese rock garden thing in the circle.

They warm up a bit.. the catcher finally emerges dragging their helmet and 2 straps of their knee pads flapping, unhooked while trying to hook the hook on the chest protector. The coach stops, the catcher finishes getting ready.. for the spirit of the game we say "take it down". Catcher takes it down. Team gathers in the middle touching feet and giggling... Batter up. Team goes back..

Batter walks up, steps 1 foot in the box, takes some swings, looks at the coach, who is talking to a fan, who is giving "advice"... batter waiting on sign. Coach gives sign..

Batter takes a few more swings.. steps in holding her hand up.. pitcher waiting, batter now creating her own chinese rock garden in the batters box...

Finally, almost like a pitch Stigmata, we get a pitch from the pitcher to an actual batter.. Thank you lord for this blessing of finally starting the inning.


You guys tell me right now this is not how it plays out FAR TOO OFTEN.

You know it, I know it. It has nothing to do with the timer starting after pregame.

I'll tell you this. I make my team hustle, thats for sure. I warm up my pitcher when my catcher is last out, and I'm usually the one that says "balls in" after 3 pitches, not the ump, although there are some great blues that actually allow just 3 warm up pitches. also, we do throw the ball around after the throw down, but its QUICK, and the batter isnt even usually ready...........

The rule is 5 or 1 min. If I'm doing 3 its because a team lagged using up their time lagging instead of pitching.

3, 5, whatever. There are Blues that let the pitcher keep pitching, and just sit and watch. I like the Blues that take control, and keep it to a minute between innings, period. I want my team to play, not have pitching practice.........

Why does that make a great blue? The pitcher is allowed 5 (if within the time allowed)
Why do the umps care anyway if the game is 6 innings or 3. They get paid for their time. If the teams want to fart around between innings it's their loss.

Thats a great quote, "why do the umps care anyway". Exactly. Start the clock at the pre game meeting, talk with your base ump between innings, and let the pitcher throw as many pitches as she needs. Who cares, your still getting paid, right?? If a team wants to fart around between innings, it may be "their loss", but, its also OUR loss, and I want my team to play ball, not lose time because the other team "farts around." These 120 drop dead games are already short enough............

Me too, I hate a partner that lags.. I am a hustle umpire. Nonstop go go.

What I really like is a team that I dont have to hustle or can at least keep up with me..

I know an 18G team that NEVER takes a single warm up anything.. they go go go... "blue were ready"..

Man I love that team. I never have to hustle them.

See, I wouldnt have any complaints with you about this. But, unfortunatley, all umpires arent that way, nor are all teams the same......
