ASA Has Priced Itself Out of the Market

When AFA 18U was in "HADES", I mean Beaumont, TX and scheduled the week before ASA Gold Nationals many Top teams attended as a warm-up for Gold Nationals and then all the teams who did not qualify for ASA Gold as well and it was a good recruiting venue also. I am sure that AFA will do great in Cali.

FYI: 2009 ASA 18A Nationals will be in Las Vegas, NV!! I bet a lot more 18U teams play "A" next year...

Those are all nor cal cities...except Lancaster and that's in the high dessert...hell on earth....80 miles from the nearest body of water...unless you count Lake Isabella. How about Carlsbad Beach in San Diego county. We can play at the local park.

ASA stopped being responsive to the rest of the country years ago. I've always found it odd that a national organization would go out of its way to actively diminish the quality of play among it's members in most states. For a lot of teams in a lot of states, the chance to just participate in a National Championship against teams from California, Texas, George, Virginia, Florida, Illinois, etc. is why they should come. But, it seems to me that ASA seems to promote the message that these teams need to just stay home because they are taking up space in the bracket. It is kinda hard to justify the state champion from Iowa traveling to Sioux City, Midland, Alabama, etc. to go 0-4, but that team would willingly travel to Las Vegas, Panama City Beach, New York City, Washington D.C., South Padre Island, etc. for the ASA National Championships, knowing it will go 0-4 for the chance to play those 4 games against the best teams in the country and then go have a nice vacation. This is what USFA, USSA, NFA, figured out years ago.

Ever played in Las Vegas? Gawd, what a horrid dump. 103 degrees, humid, slums off the main strip... every street corner has a porn shop, check cashing stop, liquor store and a filthy fast food junk house. Expensive. People act and drive like idiots. Everyone has their hand out for cash, your cash... to their pocket.

If you are drunk enough maybe the lights look nice at night. Oh yippee. Plenty of hookers. Remember, what happens in Vegas stays... with you; gonorahhea, syphillis, clamidia, AIDS... oh yea... what happens in Vegas... probably one of the greatest marketing shams in history. Such a wonderful environment for young ladies playing softball. Of course, maybe they should at least see the bottom of the barrel from a discreet distance.

While I haven't been to Midland Texas (yet) I can vouch for East Peoria (pumpkin capital of the world), Bloomington, Seattle, Fresno, Denver and who knows how many others, any of which are better than Vegas.

There, I've said it. The blasphamy. The heresy. I guess the Vegas tourist board will not send me a Christmas card. Ohhhh well.... I will get over it.
