Rank Texas Teams @ College Station

by honcho55 » Fri Jul 30, 2010 8:49 am

I would have to say that the top 3 teams we've faced in TX so far this year have been Storm Elite, TPS, and Glory(Naudin) in that order!

There is a lot of great young ladies on all these 16u Texas Teams. It is nice to see such a strong group from Texas. I wish you all the best at Nationals. Let's do Texas proud.

Mean Green lost to some pretty weak teams at State.

But they did beat the Peppers, and Naudin once in Fort Worth regional, only to be double dipped by them.

Well said Greg, look forward to seeing you there.

Congrat to the FW/Dallas area....4 teams in the top 65. Congrats to Glory and Blaze for getting 2 teams in the top 65th. Congrats to Elite for carrying the Houston area.......very surprised in the lack of Houston teams in the top 65.....what happened?

By the way, Houston area really does not play in the 16U division

Really???? Those were some solid Houston teams that came up short. Just curious what happened....not questioning if they can ball.

so-called??? How about giving credit to the kids that played well that weekend. That so-called second team finished ahead of everyone else except Storm Elite.

I would have to say that across the board Texas did not fair very well in this one. Not taking away from Storm Elite and Blaze Red, 17th is a very nice finish. Thinking any team in the top 65 can feel good about their season.

My point is that we always have known that California was the front runner, but Georgia has passed us by... They had six teams in the top ten, and that didn't include Impact Giles (who two and q'ed) go figure. Obviously they spend less time bickering and more time on developing talent. I had some very interesting conversations with some GA coaches who said they "didn't understand what we do in Texas". One team had several girls committed to Texas colleges (D-1). That stings a little doesn't it..?

As for our team, (TPS) I am very proud of our girls for playing up an age group and being competitive. Rob has done a great job with this group of kids, and they got a lot of looks from colleges this year. I can't explain our finish other than we lost a close (ITB) game to Compuware (33rd place) in our opening bracket after winning our pool and being a #1 seed. Looking over the order of finish we had beaten a 9th place, 13th place, two 17th place teams during the season. I guess we just didn't get the "breaks" in this one..?

I really enjoyed the season (my last coaching duty), love girls softball and the people in it.

Thanks to everyone.

Nice post "Outside the Fence"

The GA vs TX discussion is an interesting one. Is it the training of individual players? Is it the coaching? Do Texas kids gravitate to other sports? Does Georgia produce more dominant pitching? hitting? Is the Texas talent pool diluted to too many teams? Not that we will ever know the answer.

The play of Texas teams in college station was indeed a surprise. So few Texas teams won their first seeding pool game. So many were eliminated so quickly. Did the teams take the Nationals for granted because it was so close? Did the players and families drive daily vs making a trip out of it. Were the kids more distracted being so close to home?

Congrats to TPS for a great season.
