Coaches cant wear jean shorts?

What's on your mind?

by Judd » Wed May 28, 2008 4:41 pm

Well I have to diasagree. I dont wear Khakis. I wear jean shorts if not wearing pants and I can promise you I dont look like a slob. This rule is not in the ASA rule book and TD's need to stop making rules up as they go. At what point do they stop? What if they say no Khakis, you must have the same team uniform? Oh your shoes dont match, etc.

I had a parent tell me she was tired of playing ASA because of how uptight they are, I am starting to see why.

It is youth sports, noones going to remember what the 1st base coach wore unless they look like Artomatic in his self portrait. Wonder what they would say if I came and wore some Khakis like that, its not jean shorts.

You have no basis to disagree and you have no professionally attired coach or manager to point to who dresses slobby like that. If it was professional, you would see it and would have a point of reference.

I would definitely consider shoes not matching or flip flops to be a violation of ASA rules.

Now, if you have no pride in yourself or your team and think "hey its just low level kids ball anyway, ASA is too uptight", then that would explain your unprofessional attire.

If I thought that way, I would go out there in shorts and a tshirt and call your game (I would be a lot cooler)... and I wouldnt learn the rules or worry about hustle or mechanics, hey its only kid ball.. it doesnt matter. ASA and the parents are too uptight.

From a woman's standpoint, nothing in softball is as bad as seeing the MLB coaches in a baseball uniform. What are they thinking? And do they really make uniforms that large? I am thinking about coaches like Don Zimmer and a poor man that I used to coach with. He weighs 400 lbs.

You could become picky about what cut offs are. I have on very light blue cotton shorts, right now, that are hemmed. I wonder if they would be considered cut offs?

Just tell coaches to wear a team t-shirt and coaching shorts, I guess. Oh, and shoes. But, then as a female I haven't really found coaching shorts that fit me. Some jean shorts can look quite nice if you weigh 165 lbs. and are 5'10. I don't see the problem.

Ha, that's the first thing that came to mind...lasorda wearing a fricking uniform and falling down in the 3rd base coach's box during that all star game when a foulalmost took his melon off...
thank god this tradition of coaches wearing uniforms hasn't caught on in other spoorts, like pro basketball or football!

I would hate to see Phil Jackson in old school NBA short shorts... :o

or Bill Parcells in pads!
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

I agree with the majority here. But what about this: Female coach, neat, wearing kakias, but are so short that you can nearly see butt cheek! Saw this last weekend. Now I know that most of you MEN out there wouldn't see a problem with this  , just realize that you are coaching young girls! You can seem professional, but still look like a hoochie! As a female, I find it disgusting!
Nothing worse then seeing a first base coach at about 400lbs wearing mesh shorts and a t-shirt with cut off sleves!
It's only a little skin, it'll grow back!
