Pitching Speeds At 14u and 12u Texas HOF Q

What's on your mind?

by TXfastpitchsoftball » Fri May 30, 2008 10:07 pm

Saw a lot of JUGS and Stalker radar guns last weekend at the 12u and 14u HOF Qualifiers. Just wondering what the guns showed the top speeds (max/average) were for pitchers and which teams they were pitching for. Personally, I wasn't blown away by anyone's speed, but did see a couple I thought were definitely upper 50s. Wondering what the guns showed?

I went to the Peppers / Fusion game. The first inning the big lefty for the Fusion was throwing 60 pretty routinely in her warm-up and in the game. The Peppers pitcher was hitting 58 in her warm-up.

In the Tazers / Fusion game the Tazers second pitcher was throwing a fastball 56 and throwing a change-up 46-48.

cinnamen: Was that on a radar gun because there was a guy with a JUGs gun sitting right behind home plate early in the Fusion/Peppers game on Friday night. He told the crowed that his gun never clocked the Fusion pitcher at 60. He had the Peppers girls hitting 60 once only. He said both pitchers were clocking mostly 56-57 mph, and a few 58's. I thought both had pretty average ball movement for 14u. IMHO these have got to be the most over-rated pitchers in 14u in Texas despite their powerful PR machines here on heybucket. I know their teams win and they are definitely very, very good, but I saw two or three other pitchers at 14u HOF alone that were better despite what I had read here on heybucket.

There were 3 guys shooting radar sitting on the second row behind the plate. The guy I was asking was hispanic. He was shooting radar speeds the first inning. I was scorekeeping sitting on the first row.
