Adidas Futures Tournament/Tryouts

by Lost » Fri Dec 10, 2010 7:15 am

When did softball players become slaves to certain organizations? I thought everybody had choices during the off season. What kind of person would bash a kid for any reason for everybody to see. In my opinion Slade is one of the best coaches in North Texas and he will continue to help kids reach there goals. If Jason and Slade could have worked out there differences it would have been a great organization. But they have different philosophies when it comes to the way they see the organization should be run, ITS JUST THAT SIMPLE. Nobody is trying to hide anything, they just decided to go there seperate ways. Will they ever be friends, I doubt it, but thats life. When Texas softball organizations learns to work together, then maybe we will be able to compete with the best teams in the country. Instead we want to bash anybody or anything to make us look like we are the saviors. Bottom line is we are only hurting the sport that my DD loves to play and that just sucks.

I was going to respond earlier, but this time of year is extremely busy! But then when I read the above post, there was certainly nothing more to add! Well said charles!

So, let us hear how the big tryout went today? When will the roster be announced? I mean for Adidas, well, why not Mizuno too while we are at it?

How can you pick a team with the weather conditions and so many kids especially with no type of hitting. In the live games the coaches where cutting up and not paying attention whats so ever. They did not take many notes from what I noticed. But it was a good work out and I respect all the kids for doing there best in the cold windy weather. Only time will tell how all this shakes out, and there is one more tryout to go still. I hope it is more organized.

whoever said jason gwyn must be a great coach, go to one of his tryouts, go watch his team play and you will see more of that. its amazing that he was fired from twu for recruiting violations but he's able to coach the addidas team that is supposed to be about recruiting

I wonder why coaches get so upset when players quit their team. Obviously there is a reason why players quit. Players and parents would not leave a team unless there are problems or they can get a better deal on a new team. Players would not quit a team to go train with a substandard coach...

I wonder why everyone feels so threatened by Jason Gwen.

Makes me think Jason is a great coach, and I should have my daughter tryout for one of his teams.

Since I started this thread I will try to give the best update that I can. I was not there but my DD tried out. She said it was very, very cold. She counted about 85 girls trying out; lots of different travel teams were represented. They broke them into 2 groups (2012/2013 in one group and 2014/2015 in the other) the older group had about 50-55 girls and the younger group about 30-35. They had at least 3 players that played college ball do the evaluations. My DD said all the girls were really trying hard and they should be proud of their effort regardless if they make the teams or not.
From the emails I received the rosters should be determined in about a week. No word if a follow up tryout will be needed so they can make their final selections. Like I said I was not there, perhaps someone that actually watched can add their .02 cents worth. 8-)

Well I guess we have all going to see North texas Softball get more watered down than it already is. I am beginning to think that this is just another way to get a team that has quailified or is not eligible to play in the hall of fame qualifier in OKC this year since ASA changed the rules this year????? These guys are going to have to prove themselves before they can be called an elite group, WOW!!!

I was there yesterday, there were about 85 girls there, it was cold and it was a strange tryout. Not sure what they are looking for. Not one girl stood out from another. It will be something to see who they put together as their "elite powerhouse" team. Was anyone else there that noticed right after the tryout there were girls being fitted for uniforms? Why would that happen right after the tryout? How does that work? What does that tell you?!?!?!

It just looked like a team was getting new uniforms next year and several players on that team were at the tryouts, so the team mom was getting their sizes. I didn't think anything about it.

As for the tryouts, I think the cold weather made everyone look a little sluggish. It will be interesting to see who makes the team when it is announced in a week.
