Adidas Futures Tournament/Tryouts

by way » Thu Dec 16, 2010 11:35 pm

I was at the tryout and any tryout can be held better according to those not holding it. Anyway here is my unsolicited view. My DD went to the tryouts knowing that she had a 99% chance of not making the team as she was one of the youngest there but I was proud of her for just stepping on that field and giving it a go. I know that every tryout or camp she goes to there will always be those that are already known by the selectors and that if she is equal or even slightly better than someone the selectors already have an association with she will lose out simply for the "devil you know vs. the devil you don't" concept. But this is something she needs to understand and work thru over the next 4 years. Now I spent all of my time watching the younger girls so those are the only ones I can speak about. There were some very talented girls there. It was cold but I believe the teams have to be selected by Feb. so unless someone can arrange for a weekend between now and then that will have 80 deg. weather, the coaches did what they could do. Also, I think that since all colleges are not in the south, the girls should be prepared to play in all types of weather (good and bad). No they didn't get alot of at bats but how many do you typically get in a single game? My DD got to bat 3 times, I thought it was fair. Everyone got the same chance. They didn't really need to do any timing, the speed or lack of it showed quite efficiently in the base running and during the fielding portions of the tryout. I knew half way through who was fast, who had a strong arm, and who was just having a bad day. It might have been different on the other field but I am pretty sure from what I know of the selectors and coaches they had the players sized up within the 1st hour.

Way, Your DD was obviously at the 16U tryout, there was no base running at the 18U and for that matter not much substance to judge how the girls did either. Most girls were lucky if they got 2 at bats. Some only got one. And the fielding was strange as to where some girls got to try again and again, and others did not. This list could go on to what all was wrong. The girls put forth a great effort in the weather conditions, but that is not what has been said. The main complaint is that no matter what the girls did out on that field it didn't matter. The teams were already chosen before hand and this was a big waste of time. At least for the 18U side of it. There also was more than the adidas Futures tryout going on there. They picked their Mizuno Impuse teams as well. But that was a done deal before hand too.

I find it extremely hateful that people want to come on here and slam Coach Jason because he took the initiative and submitted an application to be one of the 50 coaches selected to coach at the Adidas National Tournament...WOW, what an honor it is that Coach Jason was selected along with the other three coaches from Texas (Dwayne A. Johnson Houston TX; Ed Naudin Dallas; Courtney McClasky Keller TX). The way I see it, any coach could have submitted an application as Coach Jason and the other 49 coaches that were selected throughout the United States did. So, if your daughter plays select ball, did their coach take the time to submit an application? If not, then you might suggest to them that they should do that for next year. Per the Adidas coaches application: ■ They (Adidas Coaches selected) will be open to inviting players outside of their local area and players beyond their existing team/organization for a spot on the national tournament team. They can pick their own players but are responsible for holding a mandated FREE one day open tryout. They can pick within organization but will “consider” players outside of their organization that are deserving of this opportunity. Also, I was one of the moms you were referring too that was fitting the Mizuno Impulse players and no Coach Jason was not out there selecting players because those players were already in place before the Adidas tryout. This was an opportunity to get the girls sizes that were at the tryouts. I would like to also comment on the so called "stealing" of the Fusion players as my daughter was a former player in the Fusion organziation. I only speak on behalf of my daughter, but my husband I chose to transition over to Mizuno Impulse because we believe that is what is in the best interest of our daughter. Slade and Stephanie Maloney are great coaches and I wish them well.

Why are you trying on Mizuno Impulse when it is Adidas Futures? No one is answering that.

The girls being fitted for Mizuno Impulse uniforms had nothing to do with Adidas Future National Tournament tryouts. Since many of the girls live all over the metroplex and even a few that live 2 hours from the metroxplex were at the tryout this was a great opportunity for me to get the girls sized for uniforms. Coach Jason had nothing to do with this and wasn't there when myself and another team mom were doing the sizing...I don't understand what the fuss is about a team mom sizing girls for new uniforms. I repeat myself, the fitting of Mizuno gear/uniforms had nothing to with the Adidas tryout!

You still did NOT answer the question, which again was "why were they trying out players for Mizuno Impulse at the Adidas Futures tryouts?" And don't dare claim that it didn't happen because I know for FIRST HAND fact that it was happening.

First off, you really need to relax on your obsession a bit! I/we were at the tryout, and as far as trying on uniforms/sizes, etc. it was EXACTLY as explained earlier! As a new team/org. time is of the essence in getting things done, so do it while you can. As far as fusion/impulse split, i don't know if it can be explained any better....Some parents(myself included) felt like the direction/focus needed to be in one way, and Slade felt a different way! I like slade, but we ASKED for Jason/Alex to continue with our daughter, as we felt their direction was in the best interests of our daughter, nothing more/nothing less! Are they/we right? Who knows, but we will find out! I will also say that anyone who slams Jason/alex and they way they run practices, obviously has not been exposed to much softball. The emphasis on fundamentals is paramount, more than any other coach or org. I have ever seen. Need proof? For the two years that they were with Fusion, with the exception of a couple of girls, the talent level was(according to the infinate wisdom of some) well below the level of some of the other org. out there. Yet we STILL managed to compete and compete well. Contrast that with an org. that year in and year out gets almost EVERYONE they want(Why? It certainly boggles my mind), but to date has not fully lived up to what they should have, on paper anyway! I'm sorry, but I'll take coaching that coaches up their kids to maximize and develop their abilities further.

And just so you get a full explanation on your other obsessive question, the tryout was for Adidas Futures, not Impulse. Could there have been a person/parent asking for them to look at their kid for a potential spot? Sure! Could there be a person already bringing their kid to Impulse, but hasn't proclaimed it to the world! You bet! But i will tell you this was NOT a tryout for Impulse! Now just like the other people on here that have a obsession with the goings on, I expect that there is NO answer that will satisfy you, unless I was to proclaim that yes, Impulse is trying to achieve WORLD domination, we stole everything from Fusion, and are striving to ruin Slade! Oh and we (Impulse) want to overthrow the US Govt. and control the economy! That would probably be an answer that your narrow mind would buy, but sorry, that is NOT the case! Honcho Out! :ugeek:

Pancho....chill dude!

A public spanking of Slade doesn't bode well for you and yours...

All that he did for you.... and this is how you repay him?

I find it very interesting that you post alot on here so obviously you have nothing better to do then be in everyone's business.

I can't answer the question about the so called "tryouts" for the Mizuno Impulse that you claim were happening but I can tell you that every girl, but two, that I fiitted that day were from teammates of my daughter. So, if girls were trying out, I can promise you they weren't over there getting fitted by me.

I really don't have to defend myself or the organization to you or anyone else because each and everyone of the girls on the roster are there because they want to be and their parents obviously think it is in their best interest of their daughter to be in the Mizuno Impulse organization. Wiishing you and your family a Merry Christmas! :-)
