NTX vs. STX vs. The World 12U

by mrTfoo » Tue Feb 08, 2011 1:38 pm

Okay the debate that started in the money tournament can continue. North Texas teams vs. South Texas teams
Which one will have the best showing at Nationals?
From what I am hearing so far the two top dogs in NTX are Fusion and Glory.
South Texas seems to have many good teams but no clear cut top few....

I agree with Slappy. Defense in the end wins close games. We need to tighten up our defense a bit more in Texas.

Tfoo, if I had to pick my favorites from my top five list it would be TPS, Force and Smash. It's early for sure but the potential is there with any of these teams to make a good run. We lost some really close games to very good second year teams when we with Smash in Indiana. TPS did well also. Force while unproven on the big stage, I think has tremendous talent. My two cents anyway.

The other 2 teams in the mix, from what I saw at the end of the fall season would be Mizuno (if they can shore up their Defense) and the Pearland Panthers who may very well be the best of the lot. Those kids can bring it. I would put them over Tps, Force, and Smash.

Top 5 From STX -- Panthers, Mizuno, Tps, Smash, and Force. If Power can ever decide on a starting line-up they could be in the mix also. Mr foo can give us a breakdown on the NTX teams, he appears to be very in tune with those teams talents.

Have not seen the NTX teams play alot but I believe some of them are coming down to STX for some tournments. I know it is going to be an exciting spring and summer to get Texas prepared for the Nationals.

Slap I like the Panthers too but they traditionally don't play much and they have not ventured outside of Texas. Maybe an insider can let us know their intentions. If they plan on going they will do well also.

Grey, I know they don't play alot. This year, with the team they have, I have a feeling we will see more of them. I believe the loss they suffered to Tps in the Fall SCC, made them hungry to win, and let them know they can compete with the top teams and do very well.

All the top teams can be solid and I expect a very good showing from them this spring and summer and most of all at the Nationals, if they can get the Defense working better.

If you notice most of the top teams have 1 good inning that gets them a win. Most of the time, from what i've seen it starts with a walk and then an error then maybe a hit then another error, so on, so on, then your down 4 runs and you don't know what happen.

Overall in the Fall, Force and Panthers had the best defenses, with Tps following those 2. Most of the games between the top 5 were usally decided by 2 runs or less and those were usally unearned. Once again DEFENSE is the key to winning Championships.

NTX has a few real solid teams but not as many as our cousins to the south. This is good and bad. First of all its bad because you don’t always get a lot of what I would call the real A ball games. Blowouts are not much fun for either side and not real helpful in training teams to play their best against the best.

On the flip side 12U teams will play up into the older age groups from time to time to seek out better competition. It is always a good thing to play the older teams even if taking a loss. It builds character and helps instill in the players the desire to get better. NTX has had some representation in tournaments in the STX areas but only a few and not shown well. It will be good for STX to come up with their best teams for the HOF and the ASA qualifier. We will see if the home field advantage can help level the playing field.

Panthers plan on trying to qualify for HOF and attending ASA 12U Nationals. Thanks for the nice shout outs. We look forward to supporting all our Texas teams at these events! :)

Great to hear that 12smom. Panthers have a great team and should do very well in the qualifiers and in the Nationals. We need all the Texas Teams possible to make a run at Nationals.

mrTfoo we STX teams realize how competive the NTX are just by the few times we have seen them in Tournments. We are looking forward to competing against them more and more. It will make both NTX and STX stronger, because of the competion.
