It was a great game to start the season.

Remember the season is a marathon, not a sprint... Congrats on a good win...

See ya on the ballfield.

Pearland had 4 hits in 7 innings. Tomball made some mistakes on the bases and didn't take advantage of some situations that I felt they should have been able to.

The game wasn't as close as the 4-0 score would seem. Pearland was on their heels all night.

I do agree that the season is a marathon and not a sprint and that this game means exactly nothing in the grand scheme of things. I just posted what I saw and the way I saw it.

More interesting question, is if not Wakeland No. 1 in Class 4A, then who? My money is on Royse City. My darkhorses are Birdville and Burleson because Region 1 is just so weak and anything can happen in a one game/series when you have great pitching. Should be a wild ride for sure.

What does Birdville have coming back? Thought it would be a photo finish to win that district betwenn Aledo, Azle & Birdville. Is Birdville that much improved over last year?

The 16u Texas Glory (Naudin) pitcher that recently committed to Texas Tech and Naudin's catcher go to Birdwell. The pitcher should establish herself as one of the best in the city this year. Hard to lose when the other team can't score. Burleson returns one of Naudin's aces and a host of other solid upper classmen who can hit. I like Royse City because their pitcher is by far the best in the city, but don't know if they have the defense or bats to go all the way. Like Hebron last year in Class 5A, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of DFW teams that eventually go deep into the playoffs barely finish above .500 in the regular season.

OK made me look up Naudin's team. I did not see the Birdvilles catcher from last year on the roster. I did see the Birdville's pitcher, has she improved that much from last year? I know Azle, Birdville & Aledo all split there district games last year. Azle lost 1 player and Aledo only has 3 returning starters.

I would say that both teams made numerous mistakes on the bases... and both defenses came up with big plays, just as you would expect from these two teams.

I definately didn't see "Pearland on their heels all night" ... Only thing I saw was Pearland's inability to defend the long ball in the top of the 7th.

Have a good night and see you at the ballpark.

Pearland 4 hits.......Not too many baserunners to have a whole lot of base running mistakes.

Tomball 11 hits......They had a lot of girls on base all night, (in every inning I think.)

I am neither a Tomball parent nor a Pearland parent. I was there to watch the game as a 100% NEUTRAL observer.

Pearland DID make some plays to keep Tomball from scoring, but Tomball had several bone headed base running mistakes, but all in all Tomball was head and shoulders the better team last night.

That being said, the state championship still runs through Pearland. The first game of the year means nothing.

According to HS game time Birdville's pitcher gave up 16 hits to Irving on Tuesday night and I heard she has some control issues as well. Not certain I'd be too worried about them this spring.

Thats what I'm saying the extra 3 feet makes a deference to to longball hitter. Lets face it how many teams in college play for long ball. The pitchers have to hit there corners and need very good movement to slow down big hitting teams. 65mpr just lands father on the other side of the fence. I really feel there are so many good strong hitters in High school that you will see a big deference in batting averges and slugging % this yr.. So a team like Tomball that has big hitters will be hard to handle.

Looks like she threw a shutout today. You might start worrying, but maybe you know more than Tech.

Look again, Naudin's catcher and pitcher play for Birdville.

The problem is Naudin's player who can catch from Birdville does not catch for Birdville she plays second base and played OF last year.

And until their pitcher learns to consistently throw strikes I'm not worried. Tech may like her for the future and I totally understand that but we are talking about now, this season.

May not have to worry about Aledo saw them play Tuesday night against Colleyville Hertiage. Aledo pitcher had 11 Ks in 5 innings but Colleyville scored 10 runs, 9 unearned. A lot of freshmen playing for Aledo. Aledo won 18-10. Looks to be a long year for Aledo.
