As for the team in 10U that your DD played for...that sounds like exactly what happened to TPS 98 in 10U.

That's because she was on that team

Good luck to everyone this weekend. Looks to be a great weekend of softball!

Saw some of the action in Alvin Saturday
12u -- Power looks to be a playing well
Force had problems but came back to win their games
Mizuno and Smash did not play well
Looks to be Power and Force making the finals on Sunday

14u -- YO -- Young Ones looked good in their games will be tough to beat
Tps97 also looked good in their games
Storm Elite looked out of sorts with their loss to YO Don't count them out
TPS98 -playing up-won their games but were up and down Have not played the big 3
yet
Probably will be YO and Tps97 in finals but Storm Elite could come roaring back

TPS 98 placed 4th out of 11 teams playing up in 14U. Beat Team Extreme, Power 14U, and Magic. Lost to TPS 97 by a score of 1-0 and Young Ones by a score of 2-0. Had opportunities in both.

Top 5

14U (11 Teams)

(1) TPS 97
(2) Young Ones
(3) Mojo
(4) TPS 98
(5) Magic / KAOS

Not sure of placement after that.

So how did this play out? Good games? Any upsets?

Congrats to all the teams that played this week-end in Alvin. 12u Force for their win and 14u Tps97 for their win.

I said earlier in one of the post that I was not a fan of Tps 98. I have changed my mind. I caught a couple of their games this week-end against some good 14u teams and they never gave an inch and battled to the end. If you are a 98 and can go toe to toe with the 14u heavyweights you deserve alot of credit.

Even though I would like to see them play some 12u I believe their coaches have them going in the right direction in preparing them for Nationals. In the end that is the name of the game .

To Slaphitter:

I am only a parent of a TPS 98 player, but I am a former coach of a team that played in Nationals last year so I think I bring a fair evaluation of what it takes to prepare for Nationals.

First, thanks for the comments. Since TPS 98 played in 12U Nationals last year the coaches have seen first-hand what a team has to do to place highly at that level. Since placing high at Nationals is the team goal for 2011, it only makes sense for us to prepare our team for what we will see at the National level. One can argue about the draw and how that can assist in how high you place until you turn blue in the face, but the fact still remains that if you want to win at Nationals you must eventually beat the very best teams in the nation. Playing up in 14U has nothing to do with thinking our team is better than everyone at the 12U level. It all has to do with meeting our team goal of qualifying and then performing well at Nationals regardless of the draw. We could focus on trying to fill our shelves with more plastic trophies by playing local fundraising tourneys at the 12U level, but we feel it is more important to develop our girls to play at a level they will see if they go deep in the tourney at Nationals. Playing strong teams like TPS 97 and Young Ones will assist us in meeting that goal. They are both very good teams as are some of the others we have had the opportunity to play while playing up at the 14U level.

In the end I feel that if the coaches continue what they are doing then they have provided more value for our DD's than adding any plastic trophies to our shelves.

The Texas Heat 99 team deserves a shout out! They are one heck of a scrappy team and you can't count them as an automatic win...this will be the team to look out for next year. They are a classy bunch! They placed third in Alvin this weekend and they were the only 99 team in the tournament. Fun to watch! Enjoyed playing them... as any other team... when they are on they are on!

Did not see them on any prediction list...lol

I would agree 100 percent! This team has clearly set itself up as the the team to beat for next year in our area. Anyone who takes this team as automatic "W" is crazy. Great players and sound coaching.

Thanks for the compliments for TPS 98! We enjoyed playing against YO and our sister team TPS 97 this weekend. Games against strong clubs like these will only make us stronger.

You shook my hand as well...just make sure you don't confuse me with the monkey man. ;)
