Questions about Select Soccer for 9yr old

by Roid Rage » Tue Apr 12, 2011 12:39 pm

First off I will give a little bio of my daughter so people will know where I'm coming from:
My daughter is 9 yr old and turns 10 in Sept. She currently plays Club soccer for a highly ranked team. She also currently plays up a division on U10 Baseball against boys in a rec league. She loves everything baseball, and has never played Softball and always tells me she wants baseball not softball! But as a parent I know baseball isn't her future and while she is one of the top players on her baseball team now...it is only a matter of time before the boys fly pass her in ability. Here is my questions:

Is playing both club soccer and club softball feasible...both sports seasons are in the fall and spring?
Will baseball skills and batting translate over to softball?
Am I wasting my time with her in baseball and losing valuable softball skills she could be learning?
Do softball teams allow guest playing so she can be introduced to the sport?
What is the cost range on club softball?
Is hitting a baseball much different than hitting a softball, from a coaching perspective?
Any other info you would like to add to help me...

Thank you
We live in Lake Dallas area...south of Denton.

We had to pick one or the other and dd chose softball. We tried both but it was just too much.

IMO most will, but to me softball is a faster game than baseball when you hit 12u if you are on a team with nationals as their goal and actually have a shot at qualifying. Another words, a good team with good coaches.

If your DD is playing, I don't see you wasting your time. She is young so enjoy the time you have no matter what sport she picks. But let HER pick and give her options. JMO.
Do softball teams allow guest playing so she can be introduced to the sport?
Absolutely. Teams pick up players all the time and that is actually what I would suggest.
What is the cost range on club softball?
Depends on what you want. I would say range from $500 to $10000.
Is hitting a baseball much different than hitting a softball, from a coaching perspective?
I won't even attempt to answer that. There are too many opinions on that and I would just be another one.

Good luck and keep Ballin'. :D

She's 9 let her do what makes her happy. If she's a good baseball player she'll probably be a good softball player. I'm guessing you take her to a lot of Ranger games, try taking her to see some college softball and let her meet the players odds are she'll see a girl playing and want to play softball like she does.

You might want to try fastpitchsoftball.net.

Click on Bulletin Boards on the left hand side. Then on Team and Player search. Scroll down to Texas - North Texas. You can check out some teams looking for players.

Also, you can click on Tournaments on the left hand side. Then put in just an Age (If your daughter was born in 2001, she would be 10U), and State (Texas). There you can find the dates of some local tournaments where you can check out things for yourself, and talk to people face to face.
