Top 14U Teams In the Nation @ Hurricane Friendly 6/22/08

What's on your mind?

by DGAFF » Tue Jun 24, 2008 8:36 am

I was not there but I heard that some of the best teams competed against each other at the Hurricane friendly. Some of the top teams there were Returning National Champs Lakewood Ladies, Corona Angels (Tyson), and Victory USA (Guerra). I spoke to a friend about some of the results, but was hoping if you are a parent of one of the above teams, maybe you can post who you played and the score. I heard there were some great games there. I also heard that the "jets" (state champs) were there but could not match up to some of the top dogs, and got handeled. They still are not in the same category as the teams mentioned above. Maybe that's not true, so post some scores.

16U------Caught some great competition at the 16U states, and congrats to those who qualified for Nationals.

Or maybe they don't focus on handling teams in friendlies instead working on new things and moving players around, being content to just handle their business at state.

Im passing on what I heard. So yes, It's all hearsay. That's why I came on here to heybucket to get the real results from people who were actually there. You may indeed be right, but are you saying that these teams do not try to win these games? If so, I would have to disagree. So parents if you have any scores, I would appreciate the scores. Will it prove anything? NO...Just curious with the top (3) teams I mentioned being there.

Remember these are friendlies and are played differently than tournament games, ie: batting the line up, moving players, trying different situations, etc. We were there and did exactly that. We played against some very good teams and at the end of the day, it did not matter what the score was, as we accomplished what we needed and I am sure most of the teams there would agree. Same games, different day and in do or die tournament, most likely different results. It is always fun to know the scores of friendlies...but it only counts where you end up on the day of the big dance!

I have to say that it continues to amaze me when people have to bash certain teams with only one thing in mind, BOOSTING THEIR OWN EGO.

The Jets won State, period and end of story. It's just amazing to me that anybody would have a problem with that. For you to mention that the Jets couldn't handle these teams in a friendly, WOW I'm sure they are really broken up about it.

However, say what you want, THE JETS HAVE SCOREBOARD ON ALL OF US AT 2008 STATE. That's it, don't spend so much time worrying that they can't beat the GOOD teams. There were plenty of good teams at State and they took 1st......

I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. When they won state, it did put the spotlight on them and I was just curious to know how Lakewood matched up with Corona Angels, Angels Vs Victory (Guerra), Victory (Guerra) Vs Lakewood , Etc., and also, how the jets matched up with these teams. I myself think the Angels will surprise alot of people at nationals. I was also curious to see how the Jets matched up to these TOP teams. I know they beat Victory at state, however, according to a friend who watched the game, Victory was really flat, and probably would not happen again. Lakewood still continues to look very strong, and most likely the favorite. Watch out for the youngsters Lakewood 94' and Victory (Campbell). I also agree that friendlies don't mean much, but I would call you a liar if you said that coaches do not play to win. Winning may not be the whole emphasis, but trust me, if you are at the top you never want to give another team the idea that they can beat you. At 14/15, the psychological advantage a team can have is a huge one, and is a huge aspect of preparation going into NATIONALS.

i knw its early, but my money is still on Campbell.... when it counts, they win.

DGAFF,

I forgive you but you didn't hurt my feelings. I have no interest in any of those teams. I manage a 14u team here in So Cal and have my own issues to contend with so I try not to be too concerned with what others. When my team starts playing flawless softball, then I guess I'll start preaching who sucks and who doesn't but until then I think I'll just stay to myself.

Anyone who manages or has managed in travel ball here in So Cal would agree, yes or course you want to win every single game everytime you play until the day you die. But, to think that it bothers anybody on the planet besides you that the Jets had a bad friendly 2 weeks after finishing 1st in State in just ridiculous. That's all my point is, nothing more. I have no stake in any of those very good teams that you mentioned.

Friendlies are PRACTICE/SCRIMMAGES. Nothing more and nothing less.... :o

How would I know? I'm not involved with those teams.

Here is what I do feel sure about. All teams try to win at State. The Jets won State. If I have to speculate, I'll do it based off THAT result as opposed to the results of a meaningless friendly where they were supposedly "handled". That's all I was saying.
