Selecting a First Basemans Mitt

I posted this question in another forum and got one response. I'd like to solicit a few more recommendations before I start "kicking tires".

DD is 13, 5'-0.1/2" and has pretty much stopped growing. Her current glove is a 12" SSK and she really likes it. She has played 1B this year and it appears to be a natural for her, so I'm thinking it might be good to get a 1B mitt. If I get it now, she can start breaking it in and still use her regular glove until it's ready.

I know as she moves up, there will be other players in front of her for 1B and she will play other positions (like OF), but I'm thinking it might be good to have the 1B mitt for when the opportunity presents itself.

Any recommendations on who makes a good 1B glove for FP and what size I should be looking at? I was looking at the Wilson A740FPBM and was also looking at the Louisville TPS Fastpitch 1b mitts.

We went with Spazsdad's recommendation of the Worth Liberty (WL1B) and are happy with it.

(BTW: The moral of the story is that other forums pretty much suck compared to this one.)

what size glove did you get? As i mentioned, DD is 5'-0"- not big - does 12" sound reasonable or is the 1B mitt supposed to be a little bigger than what she would use in a regular glove?

The Worth is a 12" glove. I don't think it comes in other sizes. My dd is now around 5'3 or so, and the mitt works fine for her, so it certainly shouldn't be too small for your dd. I would say that the pocket is a tad smaller than some of the others (like the Nokona, which I toyed with buying), but due to its design it is going to give you more reach/coverage than your typical 12" middle-infelder type glove.

The Worth also broke in relatively easily, and was fairly comfortable when she first tried it on. That probably accounted for 95% of our purchase decision...because she liked how it felt right away.

Bottom line: you should try to find a store that carries several of the models you are interested in looking at and then have her try them on. Or, if possible, have her try on somebody else's fully broken-in mitt(s) to give her a better idea of how it (they) will actually feel and work for her. I would avoid buying a glove (especially an expensive glove) sight-unseen based on others' recommendations.

DD has the Schutt Series and likes it fit and comfort just like Skarp mentioned I spent about 2 weeks working it to get it broke in.

thanks for the help - now i have an idea where to start.
It sounds like that glove (either the Worth or Schutt) is what I'm looking for, now i can bring her to try one out and see if she thinks so too.
