How fast is fast in 12U???

What's on your mind?

My dd is moving up to 12U - how fast does pitching need to be to be considered fast in 12U? :?:

In California, mid-to-high 50's. Everywhere else, 65+. ;)

Around here (mid-Atlantic area), a 12U pitcher in the low to mid 50's is pretty fast. I don't really think I've seen any 12U's over 55, at least not actual game pitches. Average is probably 45-50 or so.

Good changeups are few and far between, however. By good I mean, you can't see it coming if you know what to look for. Even bad ones work most of the time, though :|

here in GA most of your decent B pitchers are hitting low 50's, while your A pitchers are hitting close to 60. Yes I have radared some of them myself, no my DD is not one of them.

Those speeds are ridiculous. In 14U's in So. Cal. and you hit 60 you are considered fast. The amount of pitchers in 14U's that actually throw over 60 is VERY few and far in between. Throwing it once by the way does not mean that you pitch in the 60's.

Now, you are saying that in GA, good B pitchers are consistently hitting in the low 50's which I can believe.....A pitchers are consistently getting close to 60.....IN 12U'S.......What do the 14U's throw in GA? 70+?

At the pitching skills comp in park city, winner threw 2 at 58, one at 60 and one at 64. The 64 to me was an anomaly, but the 3 around 58-60 seemed accurate. The other finalist was at about 56

Just my $.02 on what I saw

Two pitchers, Best of the West 16U, last weekend, low 60's. Game speed, not three-step-to-the-rubber warm-ups. Both Lady Magic (and not their premier pitcher that was in Florida). The rest, below that. Humm.... you right-coasters might consider moving west and blowin' the socks off the chump change competition !!

KR, what say you? How fast does she consistently throw?

the park city pitching speed competition was just speed, nothing to do with accuracy. and as I recall none of the winners pitches would have be called a strike.
