Team Shake Ups

by Uh Oh » Fri Aug 12, 2011 6:45 am

Noticed there were a lot of the top players from 98 Breeze and Grapettes at the Demarini tryout this week. Looks like there could be a major shake up with the 98s. Going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I also saw them girls too. But its the 12U that surprised me. We will see who shows tonight. You cant beat this deal. Make the team and you play for free.

My understanding is that 12U is free, but 14s are not. I would contact the coaches or the sponsors about that if you have questions. Also, I think the teams will be doing volunteer work for special olympics (or another charity), but there is no bingo or fundraising, it's sponsor money.

You can't go wrong with the coaching in any age division. I would say there were at least 100 girls out there Wednesday trying out.

Lot of girls Double the amount of average Rec players that are not ready to play at that level. Good try out experience for them though. Dont drink the Kool Aid to fast.... Someone once told me "Nothing is ever free!!!" Was very cool to see that many girls out for a try out... Wish the girls the best hope they all land in the spots they are looking for.

Does ANYONE know where the coach Silvan guy came from? Can't find anything on him at all other than striking out in 1988 while at Sac City then off to CSU L.A. Hard to believe you could land this coaching gig by just owning a sporting goods outlet and coaching rec ball... I am curious though, anyone know about Coach?

Silvan came from the Folsom Freedom and Rec Ball league. He HAS coached some ASA ball in the past, albeit, at smaller programs. Other than that, no real "A" ball coaching. His DD is one of his players. 1/2 hour late to his own tryout the other day. I also, don't know how he was given a team by Demarini. He had over a hundred girls to choose from and I have heard he has one of the most powerful 14U teams ever, especially for a '98 team. Of course, we have heard this before. It is, for sure, the BIG time for Silvan.

The main attraction for Demarini, besides all the former Olympians, is the no fees or very reduced fees. Their website refers to a Police Charity organization that funds at risk child programs. Don't know any other details other than there must be a lot of $$$ to spread around. Interesting, no?

My DN is now moving up to 14U and I will start keeping my eye on that age group. Maybe change my name to 14U FAN!!!
