Midland Blue with no concept of the strike zone

Too bad the batter knows the strike zone better than blue. No one in their right mind should condem their batter for not swinging at a pitch that far out of the strike zone. Blue must have regularly been the last kid chosen in playground pick-up games when he was a kid. What's wrong Wade? Someone hit a nerve? Any umpire who chooses to call this a strike is only asking to hear a bunch of crap from coaches, fans, etc. Then you have a good reason to keep calling this a strike.

Picture 1, note a right handed pitcher and where the ball is in relation to the opposite hitter box line.
Picture 2, note where the catchers glove is when the ball is caught.

Maybe Blue ain't the one who is far off.

I'm not a brain surgoen,but anything short of a 40MPH crosswind I'd say blue might have missed that one. In picture #3 the pitcher should have a ear to ear grin like Christmas morning.

But, as someone said, consistency!! If you are gonna calls strike 1 1/2 to 2 balls off the plate, call them all, for both teams. Your team needs to adjust to the Blue's zone. if it's a big zone, you need to swing with 2 strikes. You won't always like it, but as long as they are consistent, that's all you can ask..............

Well when you become a brain "surgoen" maybe you can work on the dyslexia problem.

The umpire is in the "slot" the camera is not. Plate is not visible in either picture. Why would pitcher smile? she knows where to throw a strike!

Camera angles can be deceiving. There was no picture showing the ball crossing the plate. The images posted appear to show a pitch that was off the plate. I can live with it provided the call is given to both pitchers and the call is consistent. If that pitch has been called a ball through 5 innings and suddenly becomes a strike in the 6th, I am going to be upset. Likewise, if the umpire has been calling that pitch a strike for 5 innings and suddenly calls it a ball in the 6th, I will also be upset.

Umpires miss calls within their strike zone. Some give high strkes, some give low strikes, some give the outside corner others don't. However, a pitch consistantly called a strike is not a mistake. By the second inning, the batters and the pitchers know that pitch is a strike and it should remain so through the entire game. A much bigger problem is the umpire whose strike zone is all over the map.

I'm working on that "diploma". Here's what I've learned so far...if the ump call a strike on any pitch that's close he can get a 7 inning game completed in about 1hr and 10 min...more snackbar time ,more shade time and keeps the tourny on schedule which makes the UIC happy...simple as that...remember So Cal state 12u...any pitch close.
