ASA Tournaments and Mizuno Affiliation, is there concern??

by Turret94 » Thu Apr 12, 2012 12:19 pm

If Gary had any competition, which he doesnt because he and Kelly Jackson work together to make money, he would be out of business. Why? Because he provides NO customer service whatsoever. Our team has had to prep the fields in the past because they were unsuitable to play on and he has no people skills - which is why you dont see him mingling with anyone or presenting awards at the end of the tournament.

How quickly the tide turns. It was just this time last year that everyone was singing his praises for offering an alternative to the Stockton "monopolies." It's all business, and as such, you're gonna have satisfied & dissatisfied customers, no matter what you do... But we as paying consumers have a choice on where we choose to spend our $$ so hopefully these TD's keep this fact in mind when they make their decisions on how they choose to run their tourneys :)

Turret you are just what we need, another ASS HAT on HB. Gary has been doing Tourneys for years and the fact that he is coaching his daughter and the team is out of KJ's Org doesn't mean they are working together to make money you Jack Ass!!! When you send your check to Gary for a tourney do you make it payable to All American???? I hate stupid people!!!!!

Trust me I think Gary is probably one of the biggest A-Holes I have ever met in my life and it is very clear when he makes the brackets for the 10's this year he is giving himself the easy ride on Saturday every week... That Said for years his tournaments are always played on the best fields which are prepped well. His tourneys are always well put together and the communication is better then most. The only reason he doesn't have any competition in the Sac area over the last few years is the other TD's in Sac have been flakes.

For championship play, at the local and national level I was under the understanding that they put teams in certain pools and draw them random from there. But I could be wrong

ASA Championship play Qualification (that begins with State's) has a draw (that you may attend) that care's less who you are or where you come from. I've seen 2 teams from the same org play each other round 1. (there are no pools in qualification play) - Straight Double Elim.

Now, at ASA Nationals, they will draw you in "slots" (1 seeds, 2 seeds, etc) and they will avoid placing 2 teams from the same region together in the First round only. For the 2 pool play games, you generally will play teams from other states/regions. This (the draw) is also done at a open forum that you can attend.

Any other "tournament" is generally meaningless and the host can do as he or she sees fit when putting the pools together and if you pay your fee to enter, you are giving permission to the host to place you wherever they want.

Sftbal Junkie, you show your ignorance of what goes on behind the scenes between Gary and KJ. You have no direct knowledge of the facts. I know, I use to work for KJ. You need to look deeper and have a better understanding of their control of the softball world in NorCal. They are both business people - period. They care nothing of the girls or of sftball. Stop drinking the cool-aid. Their business relationship goes back many years. Their relationship and attempts to "take care" of each other, would not be relevant, except for the fact that it has a major affect on who gets particular dates for tournaments - shutting out competitors, sharing of contacts to make sure business is kept as much as possible between them, the list goes on and on. The main effect this has is that they do not allow other directors the same access and thus have a monopoly not unlike the oil industry - this results in a level of service that is well below what should be provided. I agree the Stockton directors are no better when it comes to their poor attitudes, however, because they are slightly better than the Stockton people, does this make them good? No. We need better tournament directors that provide a better service - period. But this wont happen as long as KJ and Gary continue to pull the wool over everyones eyes.

Turret94,

I think your being a bit overdramatic here. While I'm no defender of KJ, I think there are quite a few people who do like Garys tournaments. That does include me despite my dd not playing in a lot of his tournaments. Everytime we left one of his tournaments we weren't sitting in the parking lot saying "wow we got screwed " or if it weren't for KJ this would have been a great tournament
- To say KJ doesnt care at all about her kids is ridiculous at best. Again, I wouldnt take my kid there for my own reasons, but she does care. It just happens to be her business and how she lives. Plenty of people out there who make money off of softball.
-Gary attempts to work with teams that have scheduling difficulties and hardships, and seems to try and work with every team to run a good tournament. His fields are usually kept up or has some sort of crew working the fields from what I've seen. I've definately seen way worse here is NOR CAL
- Grapettes are one of the worst at cancelling tournaments. Gary will try to get your team games.
LASTLY, STOP CRYING ABOUT HIS TEAM BEING WITH A MIZUNO ORG. ULTIMATELY IF YOU WIN IT DOESNT MATTER WHICH TEAMS HE PUTS IN YOUR BRACKET! THIS ISNT THE NATIONALS, WHERE THE LEVEL OF COMPETITION IS TOP NOTCH. Wow, it seems you guys are worried about your DD winning a trophy. If thats the case PM me and I will give you a whole box of them.

Very Well Said Watchon... Gone in So Cal myself all weekend and come home to exactly what I expected another Tourney weekend where GY has all of his brackets updated including championship games and its just past dinner time. (Oh and yes another Grapes tourney canceled because its to much work to prep fields after a little rain.) This is the exact reason people play Ybarra's tournaments like him or not they are the best ran out there.

Turret... Yes, you are ignorant. If you think because you worked for someone you are in the know on the behind the scenes you are even a bigger idiot then you sound with your whole conspiracy theory idea. You are obviously bitter and the bucket was better off with out you my little 2 poster.

Like I said before there are a number of ASA TD Directors every year with dates on off setting weekends from Gary's . Teams could go play these dates but instead they still show up for the GY events. There is a reason for this and I don't think it's the Jedi Mind Tricks that KJ and Gary have cooked up.

Looks Like Gary's team won a few games this weekend my bet he paid the ump's off to get the wins and KJ probably offered one of the teams free lesson's to take a dive right???
