14U Team Rankings (Bracketologist) May 25th Pre-Memorial Day

sounds like RR has PUSHED the top teams up north for multiple reasons and opening the door for more teams to play in RR's shootout. maybe thats why i see the level of comp has dropped over the last two or so years in the shootout IMO. nobody has complained about the force classic gate fees and i saw alot of the "top" teams there, this weekend in the grapes tourney i see alot of the "top" teams entered. if RR is not careful there will only be RR teams in the shootout in years to come.

Play big, play Sacto Tournaments !!

Notme....and youve been around for ...how long? I think your testosterone is clouding your reading comprehension. You seem to think that winning alone is a measure of success, I do not. Our 16u team has 5 or 6 new players and has a ton to learn. They went 8-0 this weekend, but I was not happy with the semi or final. I am happy with the way they competed, I am not happy that we allowed a single run. It isnt that we allowed a run, it is how we allowed the runs that had me upset.

Winning and losing is the ultimate report card for me, because results dont lie. But in week 1 for our team, it is only a part of the equation. I learned a ton about our 16u team, but I didnt learn anything because we won games. I learned about this team based upon how we played.

You can play a great game, and still lose, you have obviously not figured that out yet. You can also get dominated, and win. I remember a Johansen team in the semis against Ally Card getting dominated to the tune of 17 strikeouts.... yet they won 1-0. A 1-0 win did not change the fact we got dominated.

I never said id be thrilled going 4-4, I did say that DEPENDING on the team, I might be happy. Some teams are going to NEVER have an 8-0 weekend, so should the coach with that mediocre team(there are lots of them out there) just be pissed and blast his girls every weekend. If thats the case, 80% of the teams playing should stay home then, cause 80% of the teams playing right now have ZERO chance of winning the tournaments they sign up for.

Blue, Just to answer your personal attacks, I've been involved in softball since my daughter played high school ball and travel ball for Bob Regpala when he was coach at Lincoln and we went out to WIN everything.
2. My testosterone level is fine, thanks for being worried about it.
3.The only other thing I will address, since we won't agree on most things, is that I counted 10, (I's), and a couple of me's in your post. Let's face it, softball is all about you!! :D

Since IM the one responding, giving MY opinion on whatever the topic is, of course you will see the word I and ME. unless you want me to start talking in the third person to make you feel better.

if MY teams (thats right, they are MY TEAMS) thought that everything I did was about me, how come I (thats right I again) lose so few players each season?

By the way, I think you had 6 or 7 I and MEs in there on your own, even talking about when WE won it all. I didnt know you played for Lincoln when they won it all.

And please highlight the personal attacks for me as I am not so bright and dont see them.

I agree that no gate fee's and ice chests allowed in the complex cannot be the sole reason for the decline in RR Gold's Memorial Day Shootout. Teams from Stockton, Bay Area, And Cen Cal would be spending considerably more on gas and lodging just to save money on gate fee's and bring in your ice chest. Grapettes tourneys are also held in Stockton (same complexs's as RR Gold) with the same gate fee's and ice chest restrictions and they have no problem attracting many of the so called "Top Teams". However, there is a reason, I don't know if its the IFA vs ASA affiliation or if there is more to it but it does seem that RR tourneys have declined in the level of competition over the last couple of years.

If you are a team use the word WE. If it is all about you "I" would be the word to use, as in your post. :D

hey blue, what is the most important job of an org. in your opinion? is it getting girls signed, putting a good product on the field, keeping girls together for many seasons or is it a combo of all 3 or something different?

I dont think there is a right or wrong answer to your question. Each Org has to decide what their goals are and what is important to them. I will break down your question into a few parts.

1) Getting kids signed. I dont think it is the org that gets kids signed. Families work hard to get their kids seen and signed. Being on the big name team helps(field placements), and the contacts the teams have with coaches are a major plus, but the kids get themselves signed with their abilities, their grades, and how hard they work stayng in contact with coaches. I had a player 3 years ago on our 14u team that was followed around by Washington and they really liked her. We were 14u, so it wasnt the team name that got this kid looked at, it was the fact the she is damn good. If kids arent getting signed, the org wont be around long.... or if they do stick around, they will be a really weak team(if kids arent getting signed). So they MUST be getting signed if they are signable kids.

2) Good product on field. That goes with having good players. It doesnt matter who the coach is, if you dont have good players, the product will not be good. How great has Mike Candrea been in the last few years without the stud pitcher? AZ looks very avg lately and I dont think Mr. Candrea has forgot how to coach. For my organization, putting a good product on the field is important due to perception in our area. Why would good players want to come to an organization if the teams in the organization look like garbage every weekend. In addition, good players will not stay on your teams if the team is competitive. Good players want to play on good teams. Coaches are also not likely to want to come see your team(and thus your players) if the product on the field is not good.

Keeping kids together. If the team is not any good, this is a moot point. If the team is good, and the players are good, that means those kids can go play where they want. So if they stay on the team, that speaks volumes to how well things are ran, how much the kids are taught, and whether the parent feels they are getting their money worth and have a reason to stay, and one of the most important for me, whether the kid actually likes playing on that team. I know a norcal team that is at the top of all these rankings that seems about to have a major meltdown every weekend. You hear about it from various people every week. Why?? it aint about wins and losses. So the fact people are looking to leave with such a talented team should say something.
So I think keeping them together is big.

When I started the Monarchs I wanted to be able to feed my teams up. I wanted to see kids feed into my oldest team, knowing my system like a MLB team. I can say right now that I will not be having a tryout for my Gold team in the Fall. Well not exactly true, I ALWAYS have a tryout for pitchers, as we will never turn away a difference maker at that position, but the other spots that we will graduate will be filled from our 16u team, just like I wanted it. But only because I feel they are good enough.

So for me, I guess it is a combo of all 3 things you mention..... and almost in equal importance.

That was very good knowledge / insight Blue! Now lets combine a couple of your points together and come up with a hypothetical question for the sake of discussion. What if you as a parent are unhappy with DD's team for whatever reasons (you can fill in the blank) but DD loves the team and is happy. Do you leave the team and go find what your looking for as a parent or do you let her play where she's happy / wants?
