Parent receiuting from currect team.

by coachrc » Thu Jul 19, 2012 7:43 am

This is one of the most arrorgent parents I have ever met. This parent was a coach last year and his entire team quit on him before, during, and after Nationals. All he talked about was how he was stabbed in the back and would never do that to another coach. He didn't have the best reputation to start with. I had a long talk with both parents and they assured me I would never have to worry about them. I like to judge people by there actions with me. I like the kid and she could really help us. So I took them on. They have been fine up to the last two weeks or so. Since then, he has been wanting to get back into coaching and trying to recuit players off my team to come join his. We are one of the top two teams in North Cali and is trying to paint the grass is greener. I am not easy to play for, but players progress quickly and learn to play the game the right way. Fundimentally strong and mentally aware. Unfortunately their daughter has gotten involved in the recruiting also. I know how I'm going to handle it, just wondering what other coaches would do?

I would remove the cancer quickly.

The longer you leave cancer unattended the more it spreads.

Sometimes when you remove the cancer an arm or leg has to go with it.... better than losing the whole body though.

If you have proof that this happening....get out the scissors and start cutting. This will have an affect on an entire team. Some may be fooled by this guy, some will leave because of the drama surrounding the situation, and then it creates issues getting strong players to your fall tryout. The cancer analogy was perfect! If yolooku wait to handle this it can be deadly for a team. If you are in the top 2, or even just near the top, you will get kids to replace this player. Sometimes you can overlook what a parent does because we like the kid, but if the kid is doing it too then be done with it.

Wow Rc! Did you hear this yourself? Or is it whisper down the lane with multiple agendas?
I would talk to the parent before you convict them.

an important note here - coachrc is a sacto area 10U coach. just to keep everyone out there getting ready to evaluate their fall ball possible moves in the know. Coach, blanket statements can induce fear and rev up the rumor mill. Gotta be careful...

good luck with your problem though, I know you have had some serious success. Hope it continues for y'all.

Wow! Not sure where to start with this one.
First of all, we ARE talking about 10 year old girls, right?
Secondly, why do these problems seem to follow RC every season? Every season he has these horrible parents who are trying to stab him in the back. No such problems on my daughter's team. My guess about "recruiting" 10 year olds is the parent mentioned probably said, "Hey, if you don't like your daughter being verbally abused, maybe you should come out to my tryouts." - And NO, I do not know the parent in question.
Lastly, maybe RC should change his team motto to, "Let me coach (verbally abuse) your daughter for the next 8 years and I will have her ready for local Junior College ball and hate the game so much that she'll probably quit."
In case I haven't mentioned it yet, we are talking about 10 year old girls!

Sometimes it's best to look for opinions face to face...

My penny says manage the situation with class.

Sorry to hear that, but as a top-two team, your team is probably better right now than the new one this parent is trying to start.
