Techzilla 3 oz over ??

A coach told me that Anderson weighs their bats BEFORE they weld the knob on and put the end cap on.

So I come home and weigh the red stealth and techzilla.
Stealth 31/20 weighs 565 grams
Techzilla 31/21 weighs 675 grams.

The TZ should be 595 grams

FYI an ounce = 28 grams roughly (http://www.metric-conversions.org)

WTF? No wonder she cant get the bat around. She has barely used it because its so heavy. We are way beyond the 30 day period but I am seriously considering asking them for a refund or different bat

And with all the hype around here when the TZ was coming out, I swear I never saw a statement that they were heavier. DD is only 85 pounds and very petite. I would have thought twice, maybe 3-4 times before buying one.

Theres no way I would have taken DD from swinging a true 20oz to a 24 oz

Rocket Tech's weight system is different than other bats, if it say -10 that is the swing weight not the actual weight. Let her keep swinging it will build up more muscle. Tee work, tee work, tee work

I knew there was a small difference in advertised weight VS actual weight but I was thinking it was more like an ounce. My DD has been swinging the TZ since last spring when it 1st came out. For the pop and feel I'd give the extra oz. and not worry about it. But after seeing her struggle to cover the inside corner against the 2 best pitchers in ohio , both approaching 58-59 at 12u in 08' I might consider going to diff' bat against those 2 girls. I'll try to get mine weighed and post the results . big difference in a -7 and a -10. MD

I understand your point but I could have found something a little cheaper than a $270 bat to swing to develop arm strength.

It will be a long time before she swings this bat in a game.

Posted on this same topic not too long ago.
Our DD is 4'9 and about 75 lbs (at 13 yrs old).
She'll grow here pretty soon, like the rest of our kids, but for now she's pretty small.

We put the 31/21 TZ away, as like you I was not prepared for the really heavy weight of that dang'd bat. She's swing'n a CF3 composite bat now and at a much-closer-to-true <-10>, she handles it just fine and hits the ball just as far as with the overbloated TZ. My personal opinion is that she actually swung her previous bat - a 30/20 RT better than the supposedly balanced TZ.

Nothing against Anderson, I do like the way they do business and previously, Nate was a terrific front guy for the company, but Anderson just isn't getting the job done for us personally at the moment. Maybe in the future...

I know Nate explained this very well when it was discussed several months ago. Wasn't his explanation that the extra weight was all in the knob , and since you don't swing the knob per say, they deduct the heavy knob from the actual weight to get a swing weight ?

I swing the TZ, the yellow Catalyst, the EVO and the Liquid Metal. They are all left over from DD's playing days. If you painted them all black, I couldn't tell the difference between them.

Just tuck the TZ away for awhile and get a cheap Worth bat that is shorter. Take her to a hitting instructor and check her for bat lag. Or post a clip here: http://www.discussfastpitch.com/softball-discussions/

My daughter goes to a hitting instructor, thank you and yes - we have put the bat away. It's just not right for her.

I'm quite certain you're stronger than my '95 daughter and strong enough that whatever differences there are in the bat your kid used to swing wouldn't impact you in the least unless of course, you're built likePeewee Herman and she is built like Stacy Neuvmann.


(and just for the record, there is a helluva difference btwn the feel of a Catalyst and a TZ ! )
