Ballpark behavior

What's on your mind?

Letsgetreal wrote:Skarp I hear what you're saying but a lot of people don't realize they are drunk ( or drunks ) and most everyone has to drive home after watching their kid play softball. There are "functional" drunks that can be well over the .08 limit and not feel the effects of alcohol as much as everyone else. They get in their car and get into an accident or get pulled over for a common driving infraction. The officer has them take a breath test and voila, you go to jail for drunk driving. I don't think anyone of us wants to go to jail, especially in front of our kids.
As far as the "make an ass out of themselves" comment, I have seen many parents that are "over the top" parents that can do that without the help of alcohol. Imagine what they might be like with the help of alcohol.

If your argument is that people who can't control themselves or don't know when they've had too much should never drink at kids' sporting events, I agree. They probably shouldn't drink anywhere else either. Your original post was a bit broader than that.

But, are any of you seeing beer being sold at the concession stands? That started a few years ago at some LL games. I was just wondering if it continues, anywhere.

The last place that I saw it was Prescott, AZ.

It is odd how drinking is associated with baseball and softball. I have never seen anyone drink during baskeball tournaments and volleyball games.

Whew! Your old! :o

I spend alot of money going to out of town softball tourneys (in lieu of a real vacation..!), and occasionally I like to enjoy a beer or two while watching my kid play ball on a nice summer evening..! If a person can't maintain themselves, they shouldn't indulge at all. All team managers should expect a decent level of decorum from their players parents and be prepared to address issues, drunk or sober, relative to that expectation..!

Yeah, Ace. I am 54. I used to drink everyone under the table. I quit when I was pregnant and never took it up, again.

I caught 5 lessons tonight and am quite happy that I can still throw the ball 40 feet. :) Amy

Besides it was a good excuse to go to Laughlin.
