Elite Gold Coaches Committee

by NorthsideDad » Wed Sep 12, 2012 6:03 am

Really I don't think its about the tryouts but their ego to show how much power they have over a tournament by threatening to pull out. Like I said before who voted for them and who gave them the power to influence a tournament director who ever it may be to not allow the teams to play. Go back to the basics and don't threaten any director and leave the teams alone. Let them develop so we can have great Texas teams get ready for ASA next year. If we fail to do that, then these Elite Coaches win because they are thinking of themselves instead of the girls. I hope these coaches realize what they have done before they decide the future of the teams being banned. It hurts the girls because all teams at this level just want to play and not be told they can't.

That depends on how you define ASA. National and Texas State do not have a waiting period anymore. However, some districts do. #43 is an example. A waiting period was implemented this fall here. No practices, tryouts, ..etc until 8/5 for Gold and 8/11 for everyone else.

isn't district 43 in mo city and sugarland? if i'm right, then that would be where aces and kaos are. not firecrackers. aces had their first tryout 8/9. go check it out on Active from back when they were advertised. sounnds like they were following the rules.

so is still ask, what rule was broken?

Yes and others too. SLGSA, MCGSA, SSA, and RRGSA.
There's one in every crowd!

It's been a long time since my last post, but I think everyone should know who the EGCC is... This is an educated guess...

Impact Gold
Peppers
Eclipse
Sudden Impact
Storm (x2)
Power
Magic
MC Elite
Intruders

If the actions of this committee really bothers you, then call up your coach and express your concerns to him. It should be added that at least one of these teams held open practices prior to ASA Nationals. Come on folks, tryout violations is not really the issue.

What really needs to happen is all the Gold coaches in Texas need to gather for a meeting to discuss all issues at hand. It could be held at the Astrodome (finally we have as use for that old venue)! Considering there is 10,000+ gold coaches in Texas. LOL

Does make you wonder how ASA feels about some of its top representation in Houston forming a Committee that is against the ASA mission statement.

"The ASA has many important responsibilities as the national governing body of softball in the United States, including regulating competition to insure fairness and equal opportunity to the millions of player who annually play the sport."

Stoney Burke - Impact Gold Softball

Texas
Commissioner
Stoney Burke
Cypress, TX
Houston ASA

How does keeping teams from playing in tournaments further this goal? How does threatening to pull your group of teams from tournaments offer 'equal fairness and opportunity'?

I am not one to be involved in this forum stuff, but I will give a brief, (well try to be brief), version of a point of view from our, Aces Express, standpoint. I feel this is a good time and place, rather someone agrees or not, I am always trying to do what is best for the kids and the sport. I continually help all kids, my team or others get exposed and gain opportunities for a college scholarship, etc. Sure there are kids or parents that may disagree, and even coaches that don’t like me. But that is the nature of this profession. I am loved, liked, disliked and even hated at times but there should never be a time that someone intentionally keeps my kids and teams from playing the game.
Problem with me? Confront me and we can do what is best for the kids. Don’t let you or anyone else’s problems affect the kids!!
I got a call from Roni Cole, TD of SOT, last Friday night. He told me "Dave, I am so sorry to be having to make this phone call but I am going to have to send you your money back and not allow your team to play in our tournament"
I of coursed let him know that we were on the schedule, have paid, have hotels reserved, and have already sent out the schedule to college coaches and have several scheduled to come watch our uncommitted kids play.
He said "Coach, my hands are tied. I received a call from a coach stating he will have 10+ teams pulled out of the event if Aces Express McCorkle plays in it."
I of course asked for names and details of why, and he would not give me any information.
I simply asked him; do you really think this is what is best for the kids?? If they don’t want to play, then that is their choice and they can answer to their players and parents. Don’t make it your choice to intentionally prevent kids from playing.
He stated, "I am so sorry and I do not agree with this, my hands are tied and I am being strong armed. I am trying to build this event and cannot afford to lose that many big named teams"
I of course was very upset and was obviously not only going to fight the tournament, but more importantly the situation and fight for all kids involved. There was obviously someone or some people trying to intentionally affect certain teams and A LOT of kids.
I for one prefer to play teams and coaches I don’t care for, I would NEVER not play or intentionally affect kids that have nothing to do with the differences coaches may have between them.
I made a lot of phone calls, had a lot of conversations, got a lot of information, and was ignored for days by several people. I got a call back from Jonathon Lampl, and he has since that day tried to keep himself out of the situation and expressed that he is not part of this decision by the so called committee. He has assured me that he has tried to talk to Roni Cole and made efforts to fix the situation. He also assured me that we would not be affected in any tournaments he runs. And if those teams choose not to play, then that will be their choice. I have found out the majority of the people involved in the committee and will give them a chance to make this right before I act any further.
I also got a call from KC Jackson, and of course we had a very heated conversation. He assured me that he, or someone from the committee, did call the tournament director and told them that that x amount of teams would not play if he allowed us to play. He told me that the committee that had been formed decided that just these three teams (AE, Firecrackers, Kaos) broke rules that they as a committee had established (without letting any other teams outside the committee know of these rules).
AS I assured him, I was not aware of any tryout rules, and in fact I know for sure that several teams within this committee had tryouts before we, AE, did. He also express recruiting violations, in which I expressed then all teams need to be “suspended” or black balled like we are. We have done nothing wrong, and definitely haven’t done anything all teams have done for years. I told him they cannot hold me at fault for kids and parents wanting to play for us
As far as the illegal tryouts he mentioned, we at AE had some open workouts scheduled for Aug 2nd and 5th or something like that. Again not against any rule I was aware of or SLGSA or ASA was aware of. I was trying to get my team established asap due to my wife having our baby at anytime in mid August. Again within all rules that I was and am still aware of. We would have gladly abided by any rules that ALL Coaches agreed upon.
I got word of an email Stoney sent out about recommending that gold teams wait til after August 4th to have tryouts. So we moved our open workout to Aug 5th to abide to that recommended rule. I did not have to do that because that is not a rule that we are sanctioned under. But out of respect and fairness for the game, I made the adjustment in our schedule
August 5th workout/tryout was canceled, and we did not have our first tryout until; August 9th. AFTER a lot of these teams had their tryouts and workouts. Including several open workouts and invitations to workouts, practices, games, tournaments throughout the summer by several of these teams.
So after expressing all this, and a lot of conversations and research of all this and supposedly KC talking to everyone involved in this committee he called back and said they all still vote no against us????
He stated that because at the committee meeting, they had a printout from our advertisement of our “infractions” of scheduling an early tryout. I of course stated my defense that we didn’t have those tryouts. Stating that all committee members still vote against all three teams that they have found to violate their rules, confirming that it was an all three teams vote or none?????
That is the story from my/our end; obviously I am still very confused and very hopeful that they make it right for the benefit of all the kids!!
I have a lot of information, and have discussed this with several of the people involved, and will out of respect for several of the members involved in this “committee” be glad to withhold any further information and give them time to make this right and do what is best for the girls, the sport and not just their teams.
Please make this right for the kids!
