Your brain memorizes words... as you learn to read - you quit seeing letters and see entire words - so as long as the first and last letters are stationed correctly (and the other letters are all there and there are no additional letters) - you will be able to see / read the word.

My DD's first TB coach had one of those overpriced educations. He could never understand how easily he would get out coached by the bartender or the truck driver.
